WOW.....it has been a slow year on the snake front so far. Today made up for it I think. The kids and I were headed home from school and almost here. Just a bit up the road is a pond (I can see it from my house). Saw something large in the road and knew immediately it was a snake of some sort. I started going faster so we wouldn't miss seeing it. Got there just in time. It was a rattlesnake, about 4 1/2' to 5' long and at least as big around as my wrist. She just got to the edge of the road as I got there so I didn't have time to even grab the camera, much less turn it on. So we just watched her go off into the ditch and rather quickly dissappear. Her rattle was amazingly big. Then the kids started screaming....."OH MOM PLEASE......can't we go try to find her"!!!

I love snakes, would have loved some pics of her, but I am NOT chasing a huge rattlesnake through tall grass and brush to try and get said pics!!!!

I really do love them. It amazes me how beautiful and efficient they are.

Alright, this is going to sound absolutely CRAZY, but honestly, if I KNEW I would live through it, I would have probably let her bite me to get some good pics. Not the kids though, of course.

I didn't think there was anyone who would understand me saying that. Been kinda waiting for the men in white coats to show up. LOL

If they show up, let them know Im waiting for them too! If you're gonna live, why not LIVE! Its just a little deadly venom, what's the worst it can do!

I've never ran into a venomous snake before though, just Gopher snakes. If I was face to face with a venomous snake, I'm smart enough not to get too close, but the snake on the camera screen looks so far away compared to the real thing!

I have actually been swimming next to a cottonmouth (NOT by choice) and had one coil around my ankle while wading a creek, stopped and "talked to" copperheads and rattlesnakes.....I try to take every opportunity to see them. They are the most amazing creatures. Just remember.....the men in white coats are your FRIENDS and they carry crayons for you to write letters!!!
