Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who so kindly shares their wisdom and knowledge about chicken health, care and emergencies.
Several of my turkeys started acting lathargic, weezing and congested. I did not know what the heck was going on. I did some searches online about illnesses in domestic turkeys and poultry. You could not believe some of the weird stuff I found some of which scared me to death because I thought we had the bird flu or something. Then I checked the message board and read several strands from individuals whos' birds were exhibiting the identical symptoms (sneezing, weezing, bubbling eyes, ruffled feathers, etc) 'Cronic Respitory Disease' but only a few turkeys and one rooster of mine was showing any symptoms. I did contact my vet and she confirmed this is what was going on.
Good news although one of my turkeys did not pass the others seem to be on the road to recovery. They are not exactly thrill with me because I have been shoving syringes with medication down their throats but they seem to be feeling better so hopefully they will forgive me when it is over.
I did want to add when studying treatments for bird flu in people one thing I found on several sites was how benefical vitamin C can be in combating all types of virsus.
Anyway I just wanted to say thank you for everyone who took the time to respond when others had emergencies because your information helped to save others.
Thanks much,
Rebecca
