Thank you, all, for advice on breaking broodiness.

As a new chicken “keeper,” I have come to rely heavily on the great advice I find here! The happiness and well-being of our 15 lovely ladies is very important to me. When one of them went broody, I took y’all’s suggestions and put her in a safe cage with water and a little food, placed it a few feet above ground so air could stir around her, and that’s where she stayed during the day. At night I moved her to the roost. It took 3 days, and it nearly broke my heart to leave her alone (my husband would laugh if he knew I sat and talked with her to keep her company!), but on the 3rd day she didn’t try to run back to her nesting box! I was so relieved! Now it’s like a distant memory. Thank y’all for wonderful information!

:thumbsup Good job!
What kind of chicken is it?
Some do it repeatedly, so make sure you keep an eye on it, keep her in good condition nutritionally, and be ready to catch it quick if it starts to happen again.

Thanks, stacyj. They eat better than we do! She’s a sex link. Idk if they’re prone to brooding?
