We live in Yucca Valley, Ca. For those who may wonder it is in the Mojave desert, in the hills about 20 miles north of Palm Springs, 5 miles from the nearest Joshua Tree National Monument gate and about 150 miles (or so) from Los Angeles. I have wanted chickens for as long as I can remember. After moving up here (rurally zoned) from Palm Springs (where I grew up) 2 years ago, I started doing some research and began thinking maybe I CAN actually "do the chicken thing". Backyard Chickens was (thankfully) one of the first forums I stumbled across and 9 months ago I took the leap! I have found answers here for EVERY question I have ever had! Thank you for being here and thank you ALL for your contributions. They help us new chicken lovers more than you could possibly imagine.

Kudos for being a researcher (from a fellow researcher)! I, too, plumbed the depths of BYC's collective knowledge when I first got my "gateway" animals - chickens - and later realized that I could also offer what I had learned in the hopes that it might help someone else.
