I just wanted to say thank you to all those that suggested putting golf balls in the nest boxes to keep the ladies from eating the eggs. I tried it and it worked. I didn't post a question just searched the archives to find my answer. I set a new record today for eggs collected, 15 !!! I was averaging 11 or so before with a high of 14. Of course today was also the first day that all four Americanas layed on the same day.

I wonder if they shouldn't be standard equipment in every nestbox.

I've seen in a lot of antique shops you see wooden or marble (stone) eggs. I wonder if these weren't actually in common use but maybe it was so common that noting was ever said about it?
