Hello new chicken buddies!
This year we are starting the adventure, finally, after years of wanting to and never having the guts to just do it. My friends offered to raise the baby chicks until it’s time to go to the coop, knowing that raising babies was the thought holding us back the most. We are starting out with 6 hens and I could not be more excited! We live in my grandparent’s house and this will be the first time in 40 years that there will be chickens roaming the property. To say my heart is swelling is an understatement. Thank you all in advance for your advice and help!

Thank you so much! I am already learning answers to some of my questions. I am glad my friend turned me on to this page!
We will have 2 Ameraucana, 2 ISA Browns, and 2 Black Jersey Giants. Admittedly, we picked the last two not really knowing that they will be, in fact, giant chickens! First lesson learned, know your breeds! I think we will be fine though, we got a coop much bigger that immediately necessary with the idea that we would want to expand our flock eventually.

Hello and welcome to BYC. Great that your place will be complete with the chickens it deserves :)

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
