Please excuse my chicken ignorance, but, when chickens go into the coop to roost, does the door to the coop need to be closed, and reopened every day?

When they are out of the coop are in they in a predator proof run or enclosure? If not predators will soon discover a free meal source and come calling. I'd close the door just to be safe anyway.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I personally shut my roost door every night. Predator are very smart and hungry, which they will do anything for a chicken meal.

My coop only has 3 walls...so yeah no door!

lol....I should add that I have a coop run combo, so the birds are well protected ( you can see it on my page)
