Hello

I am a newbie bird raiser and I've been frequenting this forum quite often but never had a reason to post. I just tried to learn as much as I can before I make a purchase. I eventually bought 12 Georgia Giant Quail eggs (got 14 woo hoo!) and used my new Hova Bator. The Hova Bator was very sensitive to temp flux and I had to monitor it a lot (I should have used the incubator I made, it held the temperature better). I began feeling really bad because none had hatched 25 days and questioned myself weather or not I let the temp get too low while I was at work (night shift) but fortunately they began hatching today. So far 7 hatched but one died because the other 6 were stepping all over it while it was trying to get out of the shell. I just wanted to say thanks to all those that assist and lend their advise to newbies such as myself.

PS

Is 7 out of 14 a good percentage?

Welcome to the Forum! Glad your babies are hatching:) I take it that your eggs were shipped? I think that most people on here would agree that a 50% hatch rate is pretty good for shipped eggs. I've had better hatch rates and much worse. Best hatch rate that I've had on shipped eggs: 10 out of 13 hatched (77% hatch rate). Worst rate: 7 out of 24 hatched (29% hatch rate). Don't forget to post pix. We love pix!

7 out of 14 is half. While its good to get chicks out its not awesome. Ive had low hatches then Ive had everyone hatch but 2.
Better luck next time!
