Don't worry about the banning...if you're back, then it wasn't that bad.
You weren't permanently banned, so don't sweat it. I'm sure most of us didn't even know you were banned.
As far as the pms go...I think that they are private, meaning that admin can't go in and read them at will, but if someone forwards them, that is their choice. Just like with emails. At least, that's how it is on my board. Some boards admin can go into anyone's account, but I don't believe this board is one of them. It depends on the programming.
If you were told to take it "off the board" then you shouldn't be pm'ing. That's not really off-board. I mean, technically, it is, but emails would be the best way. Then, they wouldn't have any reason to send emails to staff.
Hope I answered a few questions for you. Of course, I'm only speaking in generalities. I'm not staff here, but I have an idea of how things work. But, I'm not up on their policies.
