that is terriable.i also use a heated pet bowl.

I got mine from amazon last year.And I have my setting on a large cement stepping stone inside the run.It did not freeze on our 5 degree nights.I stuck my finger in it and the water was cold.I wonder if it was one of those home made jobs.
 
As I understand it, the purpose of a heated water bowl is to keep the water from freezing, not to make it warm.

I was testing it to see how warm it got.being it caught a coop on fire.
 
no Not mine.It was posted here earlier this week.that someone lost their chickens to a shed fire.and they were using a heated water bowl.

If it's the one i am thinking of it did not state what it was a warmer plate or similar term was used, which is incredibly vague. I use heated bowls and buckets here, they are thermostatically controlled, they do not get hot, the water is not warm, heck if it gets super cold they will freeze lol
