I have a second hen laying! And both birds laid in the nesting box! I was worried as first bird laid twice in droppings tarp...ewww, one on coop floor, second bird laid on coop floor as well and once in the run. Proud of my girls!

Are they close?
23 weeks tomorrow. EE’s. I think I got a squat on Friday, one has had red waddles for a while, the other 2 seems to red up then fade. I have been attempting to check pubic width and if I’m doing it right I can only get one finger between the bones. So who knows! lol I am attempting to be patient but these spoiled free loaders need to get laying! Lol

😂😂😂 spoiled freeloaders! They are the same age as mine! My White Rock started laying a couple of weeks ago. You would think she actually laid a golden egg I was so happy! My other hen (still not sure which one is laying, I think it’s one of my RIR’s) this is her third egg. I never measured pubic bone width, but could see behaviors starting to change. My favorite chicken (who I can’t seem to get a definite answer on her breed, best guess hatchery mix..like that really clears it up..lol) she squats as soon as I put a hand out. Not sure what she is waiting for. She has been squatting for weeks!

Omg when mine actually lay I am sure the whole neighborhood will know, my shriek of joy will be heard far and wide! Lol I put my hand out and 2 of them run away - nothing new, but my favorite she basically laid right down and stayed under my hand instead of continuing to squat walk. My one has seemed to be more calm around me and she is the most skittish. But these birds, they have me on the edge of my seat. I even keep checking for signs of yolk anywhere incase I have egg eaters. (I get mildly paranoid about everything lol) they need to start so I can relax! :fl

I totally understand. I have read probably every chicken article available. I have started to relax and understand hens have been laying eggs for a Very long time without me obsessing about every detail. Are your girls free range at all?

@FLXCHIX Unfortunetly we are not in a location to free range them. We are currently building our new house, once we move there, we will have 20 acres and they will be able to free range some (under supervision on my days off) we have tons of falcons, hawks and bald eagles. And yes chickens will be fine without helicopter mom, I just can’t help myself lol
