I have LF Darks and LOVE them. I have one lone white pullet from shipped eggs. Her male hatch mate committed suicide by stupidity. The White is a lot bigger than my Dark pullets. I'm thinking of crossing her with one of my Dark Cockerels and trying to work back to White.
Sounds like we had the opposite effect on eggs. I had one white rooster hatch from one shipment of ten eggs. Out of 4 sets of White Cornish eggs I managed to get 13 eggs to hatch. Pretty dismal, 4 hens and 9 roosters. One hen was always smaller and died about a month ago. She was the only hen that hatched from one seller. Too bad you’re not closer I have a couple white roosters I won’t be using.
I think I hatched about 40 chicks from my Dark trio last year, about 25 of them were males. My original trio is still doing well. I'm going to put the two hens with one of the Cockerels this year as well as the White and I'm going to put my cock bird with some of his daughters. I have a breeding plan I'm going to follow.
Good idea. I had a plan till the one hen died. Now to plan B keep them alive long enough to get some eggs. I like the size of roosters from the group that the hen died and there’s one good hen from the other seller. Putting those two together if they survive is part of plan. Really didn’t know they were so hard to raise. Fun though and I didn’t think a white bird could be so interesting.
I would have hatched more, but I had incubator issues and killed a couple dozen.
Really looking forward to trying some of my eggs. Shipped eggs have so much stress.
I think you'll do better with your own eggs, definitely. From everything I read, Cornish eggs don't ship well.
Exactly what I read after buying them. Well I stand a good chance of getting eggs from them soon.
