Which colors were you looking at? I'm partial to the Pearl, Scarlet, and Snowie. Their Silvers are really nice looking too.

I'm not sure, I didn't even really realize the full extent of the colors they had until today when I went to their website. Before I had just seen the eBay ads. They listed most of their colors but they also said "and more" at the end so some they left out. I really like them all though but especially the ones listed here. I looked them all up. They have some gorgeous colors. :drool I was thinking of just getting a variety pack lol

I like these too but like the colors in the first one a bit better.

Interesting! I wonder how true that is? If that were the case, it really wouldn't matter if the chickens poked around the outside of the cage.

Yup, this is one of the articles I read that kind of put me off of quail. :hmm There's no way that I could pull the kind of isolation of the species from one another that this article speaks of with my hens free-ranging every day.

Thanks for your experience, too! I'm glad to hear it isn't a recipe for total disaster to keep them in close contact! :)

WOW, Myshire's has some beautiful varieties! :drool Is it typical for quail eggs to be sold in groups of 30, though?

Really good idea! I might do something similar for my OEGB hen. Poor darling has been laying her eggs in the middle of their pen. Of course, she did turn her beak up at the little cardboard box I provided for a nest. I'm sure I have something like this around.

Yeah, it definitely made me nervous!! Mine don't free range most of the time but sometimes they do.

And I think on eBay people also sell 6 and 12, 18, 24, etc. But shipping is more expensive I think. Plus not all of them hatch.

I don't know, I haven't done that much shopping around yet. I want to order at least 3 or 4 colors so it would be a lot of eggs for me. I could easily sell the extras though since no one around here has those colors for sale. Any that don't sell get invited to dinner.

I was thinking of doing the 25 or 50 variety pack lol

So you might not have to order so many eggs. One comes with 6 colors I think and the other is 20 different colors.

Yes! Do 25 to 50

You will have a lot of males to eat

Btw my mom said I could get an incubator! :D but not tonight. Or at least not until later. She’s kind of tired. I finally worked up the courage to ask after milling in and out of the room/hovering in the room for a while LOL I had also added it to my cart on 3 separate devices at 3 separate times today and almost hit order every time but exhibited self control and finally worked up the nerve to actually ask lol I had also mentioned an incubator last night and wanted quail and she seemed on board with both and I also mentioned wanting quail last week too but tonight was the first time I actually legitimately asked if I could order one rather than just saying I wanted one. And she did say yes and also with all the mentionings of quail, she says she likes quail and wouldn’t mind having quail so that’s a plus. :D I think I am just going to keep asking every day until she actually lets me order one lol and in the meantime, I might go buy some wood and build the cages/hutches, then she’ll have to say yes. :D :lau

I had cotournix (sp) quail in my room as a teenager, 1 male and 2 females. Thought it neat that the egg song was a long whistle. Not so neat was the male crowing at all hours, and -- as a slovenly teenager -- the least appreciated was the dawn revelry. Got lots of yummy delicate-flavored eggs. Wished they had had a tall cage as they were prone to head banging on the ceiling of their enclosure. The quail thing lasted about 3 months before I was quite over it.
Now, on occasion, I will incubate the wild Gambel's Quail eggs that my dogs find in the backyard. (Once discovered, that nest will never remain undisturbed and Mama Quail is long gone in the wind.) Luckily the wildlife rescue takes them after hatching. The cool thing about wild quail is that they all hatch out within 90 minutes of the first pip...a survival thing, no doubt. They are quick popcorn-like little things!

Nice Story!

I am going to try the quail eggs in the morning
