It's just amazing how fast chicks grow...I mean, you see them one day all fuzzy and tiny and next thing you know, they're confidently perched! I can't wait until my girls get here!!

I ordered from My Pet Chicken, All Pullets, 1 Welsummer, 1 Easter Egger, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 White Leghorn and 1 Silver Cuckoo Maran - They're due here, June 7th!!

What do you have tied to the bottom sides of your cage?? - that's a great idea..keeps the litter in the cage....I wasn't sure what i was going to do about keeping all that litter in....

once they outgrew the brooder, I moved them to an old dog crate we had. Then I cut some luan (sp?) (thin wood sheathing) about 5-6 inches high, and drilled some holes in the top and then zip tied it to the dog crate. It works really well to keep the shavings inside. They have much more space to move around in and I can keep the shavings a little deeper to keep the droppings covered and I have to clean it less. Then I put the heat lamp inside, but I was worried about the lamp falling and causing a fire, so I zip tied that to the dog crate too.
