Hi everyone, quick question - I am hoping to set some eggs from our 4 Delaware hens for the hatch-along, (they will be purebred because our only rooster is also a Delaware right now). The hens are just starting their 2nd year of laying after molting (they will be 2 yrs old in April) and several of them have been giving me these HUGE Extra Large size eggs! I weigh all of our eggs now on a digital scale and these Delaware eggs are weighing
2.30 oz to 2.60 oz! And this is not a one time double yolker, it is consistant!
SO...is this good or bad for hatching chicks? At first I thought the bigger the better, because it would be a larger healthier chick, but then I read in that article on Hatching problems that Sally, or someone posted yesterday that Large eggs can be a cause of delayed hatching.
What do you all think? Is it ok to use the Jumbo Eggs?
