well I had a mircale hatch today
big_smile.png
on day 14 I candled eggs and accidently broke one(craked the shell at the top), in an effort to save the developing chick, I dampened a piece of paper towel and smoothed it over the egg, in the bator the paper towel dried slightly and stuck to the egg nicely. today day 23. the egg finally hatched and a healthy baby cochin is now chirpping away in the bator

i am amazed!
That's awesome. I'll have to remember that idea. :)

I tried the candle wax thing this hatch on a cracked one.. it did not work.

Speckled Sussex... I have a dozen from Tractor Supply and they look just like this.
neither- the hatchery doesnt sell any of those breeds. It would be way easier to just say where i got them from but i don't want the hatchery to get a bad name for sending the wrong chicks, even though i don't care some people might view them as unprofessional or something but it is a very good hatchery. they are obviously a sex linked breed, since there are two obvious colors but just the one breed. and by looking at the photos on the website from what breeds they raise i am sure they are either bielefelders, or rhodebars. (hatchery says bielfelders, i think rhodebars) here is a pic of rhodebar chicks- you can see why i think they are rhodebars their picture my chicks
I think we can quess from the breeds. I would be excited to have those breeds. Are they sending you the right ones now? If you don't want the first set of chicks i will take them LOL

My buff brahma died today. went out and she was lying upside down under the roosts, as though she passed and fell off.

So sorry.

She was a lovely looking girl!

Thank you. I put a folder on my profile page if you want to see the extent of the injuries. I don't know if it would offend or upset anyone if I posted them here.

WOW! I hope she continues to make a full recovery.

Good luck to you both!

I came home from work tonight, and there were 4 babies. I then got to watch number 5 hatch, as did a family friend. Very awesome. I wanted to get one on film so my mom could see one hatch (she missed #5 by a couple minutes) and was watching number 6 (got it on film, I'll trim it an post tomorrow). When I stopped the camera and looked down, #7 had hatched while I was watching #6 hatch! Yay, 7 so far. 3 more to do with this batch. Very good hatch rate. So excited.

Congrat!!

We have started our first hatch. We have Japanese Bantams, Ameracunnas, Dutch Bantams. I have always said I will Never have Bantams! The Dutch eggs we just candled and we actually saw the little chicken inside. We look forward to the hatch which could start Easter.

Good luck with your hatch!!
My second chick made it through the night! Her eyes are open and she's moving more, AND screaming away for all the world to hear. I'll get pictures later when she's up on her feet. Mama was off the nest this morning and showing the first chick how to eat
