Quote: I revived one after seeing Mary's video last month. One of the little 2 day olds was out from under the eco glow, stiff and cold. I picked it up and there was a look like life still there, so I did those little chest rubs from the video and got him back into the incubator. An hour hater it was up and moving like nothing had happened!

AMAZING! Not to copy you happychooks but that is the best word I can come up with for this. :) What a great chicken momma and how fast she worked, those poor babies but they were so luck to have been going to her. Thank so much for sharing, everyone should watch this video who deals with chicks.

Well, the whole time my turner (LG old style) motor has been running rather loudly off and on, and I thought it was maybe because I had a full load on it, so I expected it to get better on Saturday when I candled for day 14 and tossed half the eggs! But it didn't! The past few days it has seemed to be louder more often and sound like it is laboring or clicking a lot. I checked it several times and it seemed to still be working ok, so I tried to ignore the noise. Late last night it was so loud and bad sounding that I decided to stop using it, and I pulled the plug on the turner. This morning I took out the turner and moved the remaining 23 eggs into 6 small baskets with shelf liner on the bottom that I had planned on using for lockdown. I marked each egg with X & O and will turn them manually for the remaining two days before Lockdown (they are just starting day 16 this afternoon).

Then, I was just getting around to calculating the weight decrease from when I weighed them on Saturday, and the first egg I calculated was already at 14% decrease! Then I just added all the weights of the remaining eggs and their current weight, and it averaged out to 20% decrease!!!! AHHHHH!!!

I have been doing dry hatch and my humidity has been between 22-28% for most of the hatch. So I quickly added some water to the troughs in the bottom of the LG, but while doing that I quickly candled the one EE egg where I had marked the air cell earlier for reference. The air cell actually looked the right size! Not too big at all! Now I am confused. Should I try to up the humidity now, or wait until lockdown? I know some of you even wait until the first pip to increase humidity. What to do????

turn the volume down if you are working....don't want people to wonder where the rooster crow is coming from!

Ha..! I have chicks in a brooder here in my office. I turned the volume up (no coworkers by me) because I wanted to hear the rooster. Well, I forgot about my chicks. They were startled stiff & it was SO FUNNY! Sorry little chickie-doodles, that's not your daddy... but you'd better get used to the sound!

First I have to say congrats to all of the beautiful new babies and pips!

Second I am so sorry for everyone's losses. I have to say I had a bad day too. Been very sick today. And this morning I went out to nursery to water and feed babies and turn eggs and everyone was doing great. So took meds and went back to bed. Woke up at 4 and went to nursery cus kids went out at noon for me. And I found two of my turkens dead. They were still warm. I wanted too ball. My first NN and now I only have one left. Why? Why? I loved them so much. I don't understand. Ugh. Such a sad day.

Awww I'm sorry. Hope you feel better soon

Good morning everybody!
Sad to hear of all the losses lately.

I've heard a coyote calling to my dog yesterday. My dog doesn't fall for their tricks! Preds are definitely more active lately.
There's still too much snow here to free range my birds. Ugh! Can't wait for warmer weather!

Yep, the predators are making babies, too. Everybody's gotta eat - unless their dinner is my flock

Aww. So cute.

My broodies are game hens. They make fantastic mothers!

I have wanted OEGB's for a while, but have never gotten them because of their size. I worry that my LF would pick on them. But, someone showed me their little wheaten hen the other day. Ohhhh boy............I still want some!

I have no worries with my OEGB integrating with my LF flock if I need to put them together for any reason. Those little OEGB are feisty!!! I've seen my big girls run from the little hens & the little roos will fight any other roo they come in contact with if you don't watch them closely. My big roos quickly learned to stay out of the way.
