Why did his feet fall off? I must have missed something.
He was a chick my broody Prim hatched out in November. When I put them back in the coop when the chicks were about 2 months old, they got locked out of the coop and he frostbit his feet. One fell off about 2 weeks ago, now the other one finally fell off. He gets around just fine on his stuubs and eats and seems happy. I really have to look to see which one is him in the flock...

OT...But, What's the chances of fertile hatching eggs that were taken from the hens right when laid and put into the fridge for 1-2 days hatching?

We went over to my S.O's bosses house this evening and he showed us his chickens (some looked mixed and others look possibly pure?) Anyway, he walked into his kitchen and handed us two dozen chicken eggs for free. I didn't think much of it until I asked if I could see his chickens and seen the most BEAUTIFUL rooster I have ever seen 'in person', huge and actually friendly. Anyway, long story short I came home cracked one and they are obviously fertile. He had 3 roosters in with these hens.
I have pictures and would love for someone to maybe tell me what breeds they think these chickens are. Even though I am still a little frustrated over this hatch, I'm thinking of putting a few eggs in from this two dozen and trying them out, they were all beautiful chickens and good layers, and I didn't get as many from this hatch as I wanted. lol I'm a half addict I suppose! S.O. said it was fine with him as long as I didn't put them all in lol he said that's our food!

I know this isn't the correct place for this, but I will post another thread with the pics and info, but if anyone could tell me the chances of me getting a few chicks I'd appreciate it. If I decide to then I have decided I will be COMPLETELY hands off besides my candlings and let things be, I know I messed some of my hatch up and realize now the mistakes I made.

Chances are pretty good! I've hatched from the grocery store, and if you look, there are lots of threads where folks have hatched fertile Trader Joe's eggs. It's definitely worth a try, that's certain!!

I got a bad feeling and pulled the internally pipped duck out. I broke into the air cell only to find that I had lost it. The duckling was too big for the shell and couldn't pip. I now know why it looked like I had a double yolker. I did the same to the other duck egg and it hasn't internally pipped yet, but it's still alive.

I have far better news though, I have a third chick out! Another RIR. I don't have any more pips, but I'm holding out hope.

I only get to eat a bunch of good food if I cook it, and at this point it's

WELL....I don't have enough bad words for the news I have to give.

When I was down there last I bumped one of the setting hooks on my incubator, and since they have butterfly lock-nuts, it oughtn't have mattered...and I couldn't see that I made any change...it requires you to really turn it to make changes. It's not sensitive like the dials on LGs or anything like that. Fortunately (most of the time) this is an antique Sportsman older than I, and it's robust and not wimpy in any way.

Unfortunately, this incubator has seen so many owners and uses that the threads on my top temp thermostat wafer have been nearly stripped, and when I bumped it the setting was changed by about, oh...

12 degrees.

I pulled them all out and put them on the cold concrete floor of my basement to cool them as quickly as possible. I had 3 pipped, and one seemed to be alive, but no peeping. I carefully popped the top of the egg with my flashlight and opened a hold int north pole. It was pipped and breathing, shallowly. No blood in the veins, so I pulled it upright so it could cool to a livable temp quickly. I placed it back in the now cooler incubator.

I eggtopsied all of the 74 other eggs for this hatch date carefully, and there was another pip that was alive but still lots of blood in the membrane, so I put it back in. There were another 4 or 5 that were still alive, but weakly. I left them, as well. I left any that still had a chalky membrane, despite no signs of life. There were maybe 8. The rest had gone. It was awful.

I also had over 200 other eggs I'd set Monday. I have poor hopes for those but will leave them and candle later.

Very bad words. I had some amazing eggs in there. Amazing.

I was going to set some auctions tonight, but I'll be setting all of the eggs instead.

Thank you...Here are the pics of the chickens and the pics of the eggs...The pic looking away from the chicken coop is a pic of another roo that they keep loose and a duck if you can see it, it's a breautiful roo to But, the one on the ground is just gorgeous to me.. I know not the best, but I didn't go in with him to get better pics.. Appreciate, any thoughts, thanks.

Update
I have 2 d'Uccles and 1 Wheaten Marans and 1 Silked Feathered AM. Lots of pipping and zipping going on.

you can wait or you can candle tap and listen for chirps, see the article as the float test is listed there too I usually candle and stuff when most of them hatch.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching
So, I candled and tapped, and heard no chirps from the tap and saw no movements of any kind when candling. They have good sized air cells, but there is no space at the little end of the egg at all, which seems strange because I remember seeing space on both sides when they went into lockdown. I also floated them for a minute or two in warm water about the same temparture as the incubator. No movement from any of them. They all floated as if they were developed, but did not wiggle. One of them floated on its side and had NO air cell at the top of the egg...not good, right?

So, as I mentioned before, the last chick hatched at around 4am this morning and no wiggling or peeping/cheeping from these 4 yet. Am I safe to open them and see if I can discover what went wrong or should I wait just in case they were asleep? I think this was the longest they'd ever been out of that incubator (3mins each maybe?) since I was always so worried about them cooling off and so forth.

This is wishful thinking that they are still alive in there, right? An expert opinion would make me feel better about doing it I guess...could that many tests be wrong? This is day 22 and I know that sometimes it could take 25 days, but if they don't wiggle or peep or anything...sigh.

Sorry about the Sportsman Renee. Mine is ancient. Made of wood. I once dropped a broom or mop next to mine and didn't even think about that wingnut. That sucker is hard to turn, so I have no idea how it moved, but 4 hours later the temps were really low.

That being said, I've been having late hatches, no matter what incubator I'm using. I guess if anything is going to hatch, it will be between now and monday. I also have 10 quail in there. those sucks are practically hatch proof and nothing from them either.

I wonder if they would...have you checked out the whole foods/trader Joes fertile egg hatching threads? They are hatching some of those eggs right from the stores...I would imagine your eggs have had a much less bumpy ride than those! I think the hatch rates were pretty low, but I think that supermarkets have to refrigerated their eggs. Maybe someone on that thread would be more knowledgable than I! Good luck! I hope you get a beautiful rooster from those eggs.
