Those look cute, though.

These are some pictures of mine, but they come in all colors:

But gardeningmama, you know I'll have about for dozen going by the end of this week! And I have zero Coop space.

Darn chicken math!

I know, it's so my nephew's 5yo can watch. Yeah, that's it, it's all for him!

Sounds like it's time to build a new coop too, you know, So your nephew can learn how to build. You're investing in his future. Quite admirable if you ask me!

LOL! I have sworn to myself that I am not hatching anymore after this batch. I really need to get rid of some roos first. I have 15, and only want 7.

Can't someone just come do it for me???

Your excuse is: "It's an addiction", works for everyone else. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Well, not Seramas, that's for sure, LOL! I can't give these boys away!

I'm setting Barnevelders. It's become my new must have. Next up, I'm researching Mandarin Ducks.

What are you setting?
Nice choice :) I'm not setting for Easter, but hope to hatch a small batch of Crevecoeurs after Easter :)

Tell me about it! And I just can't get myself to eat the ones I have but don't need. I think it's because I don't have enough birds to make them anonymous, you know? I raised these boys, played with them and cared for them as individuals, not a pen full of meat birds. Otherwise, I do think I could do it, if the birds were raised to be eaten... Oh well

Woo-Hoo!! Another hatch-a-long!! I could hardly keep up with the NYDH, but it was fun knowing I was incubating along with so many other people (even though I had a terrible hatch, the camaraderie was nice)

Make chicken stock or chicken soup with them, without the bird shape in front of you its easier.

Mm, mm, good! I gave my birds fairly generic names. It helps. I loved hanging out with them in the spring & summer, but I seriously didn't have the space to winter them over. That makes it easier too. Coq au vin is a mighty delicious dish you can make with older birds, no matter the age. Supremely good eats! I understand the difficulty. I watched LOTS of YouTube videos. Know what to expect, and after a few, it's not so bad. Knowing how well my birds have lived versus store meat birds, gets me thru it.

Ever since we got our first chicken I just cannot bear to eat it at all. My kids are the same way. Now I just need a pig and a cow and I could be a vegetarian!

Good Afternoon Everyone. Hope your having a lovely Monday. About to get rain/snow here in the southern midwest. We are T-27 days till set day for Chicken Eggs.

In 1863 Charles Darwin published an inventory of all the chicken breeds existing at that time... All 13 of them. There are now over 150 different breeds.

I am off to surf the internet and see what 13 breeds he published................
Ok.......So I have to say that that project turned out to be a lot harder than I thought! I Can't tell you how many ways I searched that! I did eventually find it though. But before I announce the 13 breeds he published in 1863, I find that the most fascinating thing I found out today was that Google has a whole library of books you can search! Its like living with a library. Needless to say, I actually had to read a lot of Darwins book on the Origin of Species.........Dull even for a farm girl wantabee like me.

Now for what you all have been waiting for. Those breeds listed are.....

Game
Malay
Cochin or Shagai
Dorking
Spanish
Hamburgh
Crested or Polish
Bantam
Rumpless
Creeper or Jumper
Frizzled or Caffre
Silk
Sooty

Here is the link to where I finally found this info...
http://books.google.com/books?id=VM...gWF4IHwBg&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

The Seabright is mentioned but from what I can gather he didn't consider it a breed because at the time breeding one seabright to another seabright gave you a completely different offspring.
YES!! there is the list!!
Guess what came in the mail today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great reward for all that hard work internet searching......

YAY but I think I said that already!! CONGRATS

I had the same thing happen to me, with a meat spot, they swore it was a chick, I gave them their money back. They never bought eggs from me again.
I guess Sally asked first, but I will again, so when is the baby due. I suspect around April. My daughter is having her little girl April 28, I say say she will have it on the 25 which is the Pink Full Moon
I think the picture is so big so you can show off that beautiful girl. Did you curl her hair or are those natural locks. Beautiful smile
I'm due for June 6th. My SIL is due for April with her 3rd girl.
AWESOME my older sons are both June babies!! Blu is an awesome nickname!
