Happy Friday everyone! We are T-22 days till hatch day...If you were thinking of doing a hatch between, time is pretty much run out!

Here is your Crazy Chicken Fact of the Day:

The waste produced by one chicken in its lifetime can supply enough electricity to run a 100 watt bulb for 5 hours.

Now if only we can figure out how to turn chicken poo into gasoline we will all be rich.

The univeristy of Maine was working on this type of conversion using cow dung-- until it blew up the facility.

Quote: Perhaps this aggressive behavior toward other chickens ensures they get enough food to crank out those eggs. Just gotta love the girls that squat 15 feet away from the roosters, with a come and get me attitude. I have only one, and I hate to think a hawk might grab her instead. Do you have the option to get a different rooster?
Is this a good place to get Delaware hatching eggs?

We are planning on transitioning to a mostly Orpington flock this year, and so we ordered a BO rooster from McMurray,(actually 3 BO roosters, and we will choose the best one). I don't think we are planning on keeping any Delawares after this year, at least not for a while. But like I said, I am hatching a few for a friend this spring, and my sister wanted to hatch out a few Delaware/BO crosses, since we tried that last year and they seemed to be a nice large meaty cross. So we will have to wait until fall to switch over to our new BO rooster.

Sorry, but I don't have any experience with this farm. I am not an expert on Delawares, just sharing my experience with the 4 hens and a rooster that we had purchased from Cackle Hatchery.

Our VERY FIRST peeps! THATS RIGHT our first babies from OUR FLOCK!
Meet "Blueberry" Cochin & "Baby" Silkie drying in the hatcher!

And 4 Silkies Harmony Hatched! Anyone guess what color they are? I havent a clue!
But they are THE most ROUDY chicks we have EVER hatched! and FAST!
