Renee uses a different turner, one with flat areas between eggs so it is easy to lay a small fish tank style them betwen rows of eggs. THat would determine the position of th lid for the best view. In your case do the best you c an.

102 would be the top of the eggs. 99.5-100 at mid height or average thru out the incubator if fan in use. I track floor temp and temp on top of eggs, or at half height. You will know if the temp is running too high by the hatch date.

Glad you have it all worked out!!
Thanks Arielle, that helps clarify the temp question! Right now I have the digital probe resting on top of the eggs, kind-of between two rows, but still on top. That is what is showing at 100.6 -100.9ºF so sounds like that is pretty good. I will try and move the probe around periodically during the hatch to test different areas of the incubator.

hey, congrats for winning the GFM!
Thanks Tad! It was quite a surprise! A VERY nice surprise!

I haven't weighed him, but Pumpkin is huge! When I pick him up, he is a solid bird - it feels like he's mostly muscle. If the other roosters are 5-7 lbs (Andrew is quite small), I'd estimate he's at least 10 lbs, but he's probably more. This is the longest I've kept a Freedom Ranger - he's almost 8 months old. He was raised by Daisy the broody hen, and doesn't seem to have any problem getting around, dancing for the hens, roosting, scratching, etc. But, I don't know if any of the hens have let him mate - they mostly squawk and try to run away! His crow is the most pathetic I've heard - it sounds like a old hinge that needs some oil!

In 2011, I kept Rocky the Freedom Ranger rooster for seven months, and he looked like a small turkey when I processed him and was about 15 lbs live weight.
He is huge. I like the size of him

Walked by my incubator and it occurred to me - how the heck do I candle 200 quail eggs?
Lol
I set 114 eggs last year (the most I've ever set). I had to do them in batches. A batch a day, so they wouldn't cool down too much. They still did, because the last ones to hatch were the smallest (dutch bantams). They should have hatched a couple of days before anyone else!
Start candling day 4 or 5 and do batches of 30? It depends how quick you are, I guess. Have fun!
