The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

Honestly, I don't candle a lot, even on small chicken hatches, so ignoring most of the eggs will be easy. I've found clears at lock down that I never bothered to look at. Guess I'm a bad guy! I figure chickens have been doing it for eons, so I can't really improve on it.
I don't sweat the temp fluctuations or humidity a lot, either. My hatches aren't great, but the ones that survive me tend to be strong! I think my best hatch was 4/6, worst, 0/18.

so, i want to candle. I remember i candled last time at day two and i could see enlarged bullseyes.,... hmmm... to be patient? or not to be.

I've candled

..I did it very quickly so the temp drop wouldn't be so dramatic and I see veining (LARGE air cells? which worry me a little) and even the embryo so clearly in my silkie eggs. The RIR eggs I can tell I probably have some clears, but because they are so hard to see through I won't dare take any out until day 14. Both my Silver penciled rocks look clear sadly :(...

But I couldn't wait either, I went and bought a 100l umen LED small flash light and the difference from my regular flashlight to this new one is crazy...I can actually see the veining in the rir eggs so much better. I won't open the bator back up until day 7 now though, I can't wait!

Quote: I test differnt areas too. ANd heights. On screen VS on top of the eggs. THermometers are not as accurate as everyone thinks as you may know. Accuate to .1 degree is not helpful if thermometer measures 100 degrees when the temp is accutally 102. Know what I mean? Not sure I'm being clear here. In the end the eggs tell me how to use my thermometer.
