Chick's DivaTiara

This is a very simple tiara that easy for even children to make. But very eggalent upon a chicken's head.
This is the finished product!!! Note: Do not be afraid to read the instructions and tweak them to your taste. Use a colored pipe cleaner with contrasting beads, and different patterns. First you are going to need one pipe cleaner of any color, One big diamond shaped bead, four small diamond shaped beads, florist wire, wire cutters, and lots of beads! First pick a pipe cleaner. It should be twelve inches long. Then take the pipe cleaner and fold it in half. Unfold it and bend the folded part into a 'v' sticking down. Pick a few beads, and create your pattern. Make sure the beads are big enough to go on the pipe cleaner! Add two to four beads depending on their size. Set the pipe cleaner down and grab the wire. Unroll the wire 4-5 times. Get your diamond and the wire half way. Set diamond on the middle of a different wire. Bend wire and wrap ends of wire one on each side of diamond like this. Add beads to on side of wire, attach end to bead farthest from 'v' and wrap the wire around the pipe cleaner until there's no more wire. Same with other wire. Should look like this! If you want you can add a ribbon to both side and add more beads. Cut four peices of four and a half inches long to five inches of florist wire. Add a diamond near the end and twist/wrap the end up the wire. Add beads leave an inch of wire at the end. Make three more and take the end of one and wrap it around the pipe cleaner until the wire's gone. And your crown is complete! Now all you need to do is dress up your divas! Above is my Barred Rock hen Hattie. Above is my best model, Daisy, my White Rock!

Try not writing 'Fragile' on it. Over here, some posties take it as a challenge and play soccer with the boxes. Not too nice when you post live fish :(

Congrats to all the winners!

Sooo my eggs... they didn't get the memo to pip then rest lol. I had two pips before bed last night and 7 chicks bouncing around in there this morning.

My temps were low. One was low because the humidity sensor stopped working properly halfway through and humidity affects the temp, so although it was reading a certain temp, it was in fact slightly lower because the humidity was higher than what it was reading. That's my theory, anyway, and I'm sticking to it. Eggs normally hatch a day early out of that bator.
The second incubator was low because I forgot to turn it up a bit (not self adjusting like the first) when I went away. Of course I turned the heating in the house down, so the bator was much cooler. Doh!
At least they weren't all dead, like I feared when I got back to no chicks!

A pet sitter came to check on everyone and top the water up in the incubators. She had a bit of a rough time lol Here's one of her messages:

All ok at allotment and home. Progos face seem a bit better. Had fun trying to get the two bantams to feed. Could only catch one of them which did eat quite a bit while I collected eggs from next door. Ended up with 'hen poo' in my hair by trying to get to the far corner collecting eggs! Yuk! Got 12 today although the little one with the attitude still attacking my feet. All good fun! Have a good weekend. x

Before leaving, I left her some instructions. One of them was: If you hear cheeping coming from the incubators, cheep back!
Sounds like a good natured pet sitter. Too bad she didn't have the chance the cheep back!

OMG!!! It's the PO here I swear! I sent eggs to Bakersfield last tuesday and they traveled the state. Tons of re routing and the buyer got her broken eggs this morning. I'm going to collect for her again and send them either friday or monday. This is getting rediculous. I've gotten so many damaged boxes and even boxes that looked fine that had every egg broken. The best one was the box that had probably been run over (Not kidding) with stickers and chicken clipart and warnings all over it. It was half in and half out of a plastic bag which had a sloppy "Received Damaged" sticker, barely holding it onto the box and egg running all over. But this is getting to be a habit with them sending boxes all over.

omgsh! That is so sad and ignorant of these Postal workers, I would definitely use the info below that 'rarebear' provided and report this!

You have a mini zoo compared to me. :) Lets see...
3 lovebirds
6 cockatiels
2 doves

1 meyers parrot
14 adult hens
2 adult roos
9 juveniles
17 chickies (claimed 7 as keepers)

Thank You!

GREAT Info to have! I'm so happy my eggs came through fine, but I feel so sorry for those when they don't, what a huge let down :(

I forgot to mention that I figured out how I got wonky numbers. My initial set number was correct. I removed 13 after 10 days. I miscounted the remaining ones because I thought there were two dozen egg boxes, but infact they were only 10s. So I added an extra 4.
I removed another 3 before lockdown, so I'm hoping for 43 chicks. Counting is way too difficult.

I'm using your zoo as an example to prove mine is a mini zoo :)  I would love to have that many.  I've claimed about 30 of my chickies as keepers though I know about half of them will be roos and have to go live elsewhere or become chicken dinner.

My DH and I have an agreement. He doesn't tell me how many animals I can keep and I don't tell him how many guns he can buy.

We have:
21 chickens (counting chicks)
6 dogs
6 rabbits
3 goats
A turkey
A horse
A donkey

I've got 12 turkey eggs ready to go in the bator and then as many chicken eggs for tutors that I can fit in there.
