I just paid for my second batch of Call eggs. So, I'll have something to set for sure...my girl just keeps building the nest over and over again...maybe she should start thinking about putting something in the nest!

Update......I know have 7 hatched. The last one just popped out 30 minutes ago. Still sitting in the shell. I have one pipped still. So I noticed that for some reason the chicks were not drying in the incubator which brought me to the conclusion that the humidity must be too high. So after awhile I put them in the brooder and they dried but not fluffy. It is like they all had hair product on and got stuck in the rain....ladies you know what I am talking about. That wonderful mat feeling. Anyway, should I wash them to loosen their down or should I leave them. What about the one that just hatched should I take it out and dry it off before the same thing happens? I took the paper towel that had absorbed the water from the wells and I think attributed to the humidity. Any advice?.

Try washing chick gently in warm running water-- use care to keep the head out of the water. and see if some of that goo will come off. With patience and rehydrating the goo, it usually comes off, or at elast most of it. THen put chick in a warm place lik the incubator to fluff up again.

If the new baby looks gooey, wash it off before it dries = much easier to clean.

Again, keep the water out of the face area so the chicks don't drown.
