Sally, how is that little one of yours doing? I hope he's feeling a lot better by now. Mom is probably tired from being up with him keeping him comfortable through the night.

To pass the time I wanted to see if anyone has ever had this happen.

This is Opps. It's a mixed breed duck that was shipped. When I got it the air cell was slightly saddle shaped. I left it big end up in an egg carton and tilted the carton 5x's a day for a week. I then laid it down as it's then that I noticed it's air cell had attached in the middle of the egg. That's what you're seeing below the giant vein. It was on day 16 or so when I took the picture.

Has anyone had this happen? If so did you have to help? Was the baby healthy?

Okay, I scrolled back 4-5 pages and see several other people with their individual totals, but don't see the running count. I assume that means Mike still has to do Math. I don't have photos of the actual eggs under the broody, but most of them are from the hen that laid these eggs. The rest are from a second hen that laid eggs that are just as big and almost as dark.


This egg was laid 3 weeks ago from our Prize winning hen that laid 6 of the eggs under our broody hen.


Here are her eggs that took 2nd place Black Copper Marans Eggs, 3 place over all eggs, and Champion People's Choice Eggs at the South Regional Marans Meet two weeks ago in Dripping Springs, Texas.


And the eggs on the bottom row labeled No. 12 are her eggs she was laying at the beginning of her laying cycle in December. Oh...and the daddy of these eggs was the Reserve Champion Black Copper Marans at the Show in College station out of 26 Black Copper Marans that were entered. We are really looking forward to the Easter Hatch.

Sounds like you are in for a GREAT Easter hatch!!! Your chickens and eggs sound amazing and im sure your chicks will be just as amazing as the parent stock.

Yes, shipping does that. Try to position the egg at lock down so that the duckling will not pip that vein. It can be set tilted in an egg carton to keep the egg in position.

The eggs are in a cut down egg flat. They are tilted back a bit and the chicks\duckling\... pip in the middle of the top. They use gravity to do this. Mark where the vein is and turn the egg off of center from it.

OK. It was in a cut down carton for the first week but I laid it down on the recommendation of an other member. So on Monday when it an other duck and I goose move to my hatcher I should out that one in an egg carton?

Yes!
