The box did not smell at all..not the eggs either..and man, they are just gorgeous! There are the OE's I have been wanting! And the blues! Darn, I hope some are ok. They are still under 2 weeks from being gathered..some say the 23 and 24th. May have a chance. Oh, found out why they are late..wrong address on the box.

A simple mistake..she put an East and a West ..plus, for some reason, there is a 1 marked through the O on the zip. So a couple of things throwing the P.O. off, even though it's clearly marked Utah..and the city too.

Do you have pics of your pretty new eggs?

DH bday today, Good old school AppleCake in the oven! How many of your recipes are in terrible shape? I have about 10 that are so discussting! Its one of those things you never take time to rewrite them, now my grandmothers are a different story, I NEVER will replace them, I can feel her and smell the kitchen just look at her writing

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I will have to get some later. They are setting until just tonight. I have candled a few, saw some fluid floating around in one, and a couple have huge detached air sacs..some, nothing to see but the yolk. Who knows, I might get some. Crossing fingers for the OE's! Even if I only got one girl from one of the beautiful OE eggs, I would be happy.

Sally? Your DH's birthday is today?? Tell him that we wish him a very Happy Birthday!

My broody Popcorn with a chick... she's got 5 altogether....She has them out in the run and they're peeping their little heads off. I'm usually 'hands off' with the broody Mommas, but I think I'm going to gather them all up and put them inside the basement. Popcorn's lost too much weight this time and I think this cold may be stressing her out.

Oh what a beautiful morning!!!

We woke up to our foster cat Princess' 5 newly born kittens!!!! She did it all by herself and they are so precious!

5!!

She is letting them nurse, but got restless and shifted around so we would pet her when we went in the room where she is.She got up and babies dropped off her and ended up behind her when she turned around so we pet her..then she settled down again.. She was insistently pushy about that yesterday and I thought maybe she was just very uncomfortable. Understandably so! But I hope she stays put with them and ignores us pretty much soon. Should we leave her be, have alone time, today...I want those babies to have her full attention and proper beginning.Any advice from you experienced kitten folks? There are 2 dilute orange and whites, 2 gray and whites, and 2 dark gray with little white hairs over the top...like shimmery icing over the gray. I know the answer to this...but did she make them by herself? They are just her colors...gray, dilute orange, and white...lol

Here they are:

I don't know if anyone has answered you (im several pages behind) but I would just let her do what she is gonna do. It is normal for momma to get up occasionally and stretch her legs, eat, drink, bathroom, etc. Just watch to make sure she does go back to them. Cats are NORMALLY great mothers - not like dogs, who may or may not be. You rarely get a cat, even a first timer, that doesn't want to do the mommy job. Especially if she is already nursing them.
Watch her cues and you should be able to recognize her intentions. Most cats are actually fairly friendly too after giving birth (no they won't usually abandon or EAT their babies if you pet them....lol) so if you are going in and petting her, she is probably loving that attention. It goes hand in hand with the hormones she is getting from nursing. No need to completely ignore her - just don't try to force her to stay in the box/bed.

aww, not only is she a good mama, but so are you! I have been hearing that it's cold up your way. We have cooled down here too. Rain through the weekend..with a mix of snow. It's April..so..April showers.. but at least it warms up close to the 50's for a short while in the day.
