Looks like I will be setting way more eggs than I thought. DH just sent me an email (from the other end of the couch, no less) notifying my that this

will be arriving Tuesday!. I was just going to use my handy dandy mini eco...but, wow!

Lay, girls lay!!!

I used to have one of these...I bought it to use as a hatcher so I didn't get the turner. I should have done it the other way around because with this incubator, when you open it up to get the chicks out, they run right out the sides. Using it for fast little quail was impossible :) It worked well though. Just take your time with adjusting the temp. And definitely get a good thermometer! Cool DH!

You've got that right, no pics didn't happen, lol!

I just ordered a spot check. I have 4 thermometers in my incubator right now and they are all giving different readings.

You won't regret it...even though mine has brought to my attention that some major adjustments had to be made!

Some pics I took of some of the chicks.

Love this one... He looks like he's saying "Don't worry, I got your back, bro"

So what is everyone using as incubators. I used the LG still air for quails. I like the brisnea just wish it could hold more than 7 eggs. I have 14, just added 4 from my no longer broody hen, all started last Wednesday. Don't want to add new eggs for hatch-a-long. ..thoughts??

I have two Redwoods with 624 egg capacity each and three hovabator style bators (42 egg capacity) and then also a janoel 48 (48 egg capacity) currently using the three hovabators for hatchers although I do have hatcher trays for the redwoods. I have a huge amount going right now with two styros full with lockdown eggs right now I am planning on firing up my second redwood for the easter hatch along will do the minor repairs it needs this week.

Well, maybe this is cheating, but planning to hatch out a brood using a broody hen. Keep your fingers crossed that somebody goes broody by next Sat. If not, I'll set up the inc'y until one does! Gonna set as many as I can (collecting this week for it). These are bantam mixes.

Good luck to everybody!

Yes, I'll be joining the 2014 Hatch-a-long!
Welcome!

I just went out to gather eggs, and one of my white Cochin hens was sitting in a nestbox, didn't budge when I dumped their food into their feeder (which always gets them up and out, and then jumping down to eat...) but she let me pet her, rub her neck for a few minutes, then stood up to let me get the 3 eggs, then plunked down again.
I'll check her later but I'm thinking she may be thinking of going B (that B word again... haha

) and that would be perfect timing for the Easter Hatch-a-long...I have eggs coming this week from the BST thread, I'm hoping to win some from Ebay today (will tell which breed after I know if I won them) and then some of my own birds' BCM and OE eggs....I could have 2 incubators running and a mama bird on some too!!!

and to think I wasn't going to hatch any this year. Nope!
Hooray!

Just went to go gather eggs also.. Not as many as I was expecting. Have been letting them out to free range, think they may be hiding a nest. Problem is with 10 1/2 acers it is hard to look in every little place... Will have to go back out and try again. Not really what I wanna do when I feel like crap but gotta do what we gotta do. Ate two cloves of garlic earlier, was told it might help...

Oh congrats to everyone who's birds finally started laying.~~ cutting it close aren't they!..

I find when I first start free ranging production drops briefly, then skyrockets. I think they just are too excited for a few days.

I ordered eggs but I think I am going to fill up the rest of the bator with my own as well. Don't have great luck with shipped eggs and definitely want some to hatch, so I will be giving some chicks away.

Love to see what some of the breeds will give me. So I will have an interesting time seeing what hatches.

Fill that incubator!

I started collecting eggs yesterday, only 3 eggs so far. I am only going to be collecting from 2 of my hens for this Easter hatch. I also ordered 12+ BCM eggs from a BYC member to be shipped next week so excited
