I had edited my post to add 1 egg, I have a total of 32 eggs set.

After watching me skim thru this thread all day getting caught up, DH says I need to come here for advise...Hmmm I think, this comment should be interesting....See those people's incubators don't have to be completely filled to the point that eggs are getting ready to fall out. HAHAHAHA...(I think there were two brinsea pics with only a few eggs in there)

Although in all honesty how do you do that? Don't you feel the urge to go buy eggs or search out nests?

Don't want to mess with too many chicks at once. Nope, but the Cinco de Mayo hatch a long sets soon.

He was on BYC not to long ago, still in AZ, still a Dentist.

I think I'm gonna head that way, myself. After all the rain we had this week I was busy today with coop chores I didn't get to and yard cleanup. Our new pup, Razz shredded the old couch we keep on the porch for Daisy (our elderly dane) so there was stuffing alllll over the dog yard. I still have two roosters who are intent on trying to kill each other, two other roosters who are going away to freezer camp (including my Diego) next week and hens who are upset that we finished the fence. What IS it with chickens and roads anyway?
I did get Wisher's flowers dug, though. I'll spend all this week dividing and moving daylilies and peonies and digging out my faux creek bed so that I can connect my ponds. It's not easy digging in the garden with chicken toes always getting in the way. I have to be careful. They have to scratch in the soil I turn.

All I have to do is pick up a shovel, pitchfork or the "claw" and the girls come running. If I'm moving bricks or rocks around they have to be there to look under each and every one. Nosy things.

Maddy got to mark off the first day on her hatch-a-long calender. That was cool. She tells all the eggs goodnight before going upstairs to bed.

Here they are, pretty maids all in a row. 40 Belgian d'Uccles and 1 random mixed breed from one of my frizzle hens (can't leave a slot open in the turner with all these hatchable eggs around here you know). So I guess my total is up to 41. I really did have anxiety over leaving that last slot open and had this random frizzle egg I had been holding onto hoping someone would want it. It probably won't hatch cause it's 20 days old, but I want to try cause I want more frizzles (and since I don't have the space to separate them, I just hope I'm in the coop when they lay so I can quick snatch it up and label it to know it's theirs). Last hatch of mixed babies is starting to feather enough to see who is frizzle. 2 for sure so far, with 2 maybes as of last night. I sold some of them on Saturday before we could tell, so it's possible those buyers got a steal of a deal. They are really awesome local people, so I'm sure they'll be sending me pictures as the chicks grow. They bought from me last year too.

I just picked up 10 mixed color Polish eggs. Now to risk through my errands try to drive gently and get them home and set.

My set number went down to 5.

I opened the door to the coop this morning at 6 to let everyone out and then I went back to check on my broody hen at about 9:30 to see if she had left the nest to eat anything. When I got outside I saw feathers everywhere but not blood. I couldn't figure out what happened because everyone was out there that should have been. I went to the coop after the outside head count to check on my hen and something had gotten her and in the process crushed 5 eggs. I grabbed the other five and they were cold. I decided to bring them inside and put them in the incubator even though I don't have much hope that they'll make it. After bringing the eggs inside, I went back outside to clean up the mess in the coop and put all the chickens back in the coop, but when I got there I saw more feathers. I looked around to see who it was this time and in the back of the field behind my house I saw a fox reach the wood line with my favorite rooster in his mouth.
