May I join? I set chicken eggs on March 27th.
Welcome, I bet you set around 54 eggs.

I have to admit this to someone. I just brought home 3 feed store chicks. All of them had pasty butt really bad and an older lady was looking them over lamenting their care but her husband kept saying "no, put them back". So I got three of the worse cases out of pitty for the little guys and when I was leaving she made sure I knew they had pasty and wanted to make sure I had Save-A-Chick. I think she was relieved at least some went home with someone aware of how to take care if them.

So uh, I guess what I am saying is, I need to mail order my feed or something because I cannot be trusted in there.
That was nice of you, threes not very many anyways.

I've found that pasty butt happens most often when they get chilled. Good for you for taking them though!

I've got to be careful because I'm having a hard time resisting the ducklings. Right now I have meaties, and they are messy enough!
Stay away from ducklings, but roasted duck is delicious, you should get some ducklings.

I love me some deviled eggs. The big ones ARE bite-sized to me....

I agree.

I have a problem! My thermos are all different now. My two accurite are saying 100 degrees. My glass thermo is saying 98, and my probe is saying 97.8. When I started this, they were all the same...????
:barnie

I just candled the eggs, I'm a candle-aholic... From what I could see, they ALL have veining, even the seven Salmon Faverolle eggs that I purchased just for this hatch, YIPEE!

:cd. Not counting my chicks yet though, so far I have ever only successfully hatched one chick.

Yes lots of fertile eggs. But I kinda freaked out when there was no air cell. I did go back and look at a couple from the top and could see air cell. You have to understand I don't have a clue about hatching eggs. Thanks Ron and Sally for the help. If you have a good link for candling that would be great, because I didn't know to look from the top!
You are doing fine so far!

I have some candling pictures to share. You can see how the egg is held to see the air cells:
@stephanie1992 may have posted this on a hatch a long in other years too!

So leave it to me to be panicking..... I have eggs set to hatch this saturday... technically today should be "lockdown" day... however I have (in the same incubator) another set of eggs for the Easter HAL. I do not have an auto turner so 3-5 times a day I am hovering over my incubator turning the eggs. With it being "lock down" time here are my questions; Should I continue turning the eggs due to hatch this weekend? Or should i just turn the HAL eggs?? I obviously still have to turn my HAL eggs 3x per day and am worried about the flux in humidity/heat etc..... should I make a separate incubator for hatching??? Note:

Im panicking... my father who has done this before says "Ah hush it.. they will be fine... i have done this too many times to worry." (Im the worrier in my family if its not obvious yet haha)

I just dont want to stress the eggs or myself too much and Im honestly at "banging my head against the wall" level now.... Help.

I would go to turning the HAL eggs only once or twice per day during lockdown & not at all during active hatch. Stop turning when you hear a peep or see a pip. Resume turning once all chicks from the first batch hatch.
