If DH knew how much exactly we have spent on chickens, coops, runs, bedding, feed, incubators, eggs, emergency supplies and accessories, well lets just say it would make a grown man cry faster than a spilled beer would

Though some of it was free and/or recycled, we have spent alot more than $729.94 and that was the first 2 months, It hasn't even been a year yet, and I have quit with keeping a total spent (I wouldn't want to cry too, lol). We have not had loads of eggs either to eat, much less sell (due to winter, age, heat, humidity, molt, you name it). The eggs we have got sure do taste good and the chicken entertainment t.v. has been the best investment we have ever made.

$729.94......Question.....How did she get such a bargain? I want in on that one.

This is why people shouldn't keep chickens just to get "free eggs", but because they love chickens and want to give them a good home.

Even with the cost, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

If this were the script for a commercial it would read:

Chickens plus supplies - $729.94
One egg - priceless!

Truly these chickens have added much entertainment value to our lives.

And as an aside, if (when) the egg doesn't sell, the kids look forward to decorating it for the Christmas tree so that we can always mistily remember "the first one".

. Well, your egg is priceless! It came with a lot of love, learning and labor but all worth it.....Just look at the bright side, the moment the other eggs start coming, the price may drop to the double digits per egg!!!!! Well written, I really enjoyed it. Now, isn't there a book about the $64 Tomato????

I estimate I'll need to sell each dozen of eggs for $150 for about a year. If I could just sell a few at your price my return will get to me quicker

Keep us posted.

Good grief that first egg cost you less than mine - we lost track after we went over a grand. Eek!!

(For the record, most of that cost was the first coop that we grew out of in less than a year!

Almost forgot - I'm getting ready to auction off my cornflake that I found in my cereal this morning that resembles my first egg and that's totally worth twice as much! Right??
