I won't even go public with what my DH has into my coop. I am very lucky I know. They are never going to pay for themselves but I would do it all again in a heart beat.

You got off cheap!! That's a drop in the bucket for us...But, it is definitely worth it. However, our chickens now pay for their upkeep from the eggs. And, there is nothing like eating the fresh eggs, or the fresh chicken for that matter, that you've raised yourself...

Smile....after 5 years of "raising" chickens/chicks and eggs, we still haven't recouped our investment in now 14 separate pens, oops make that 16 pens now and countless smaller baby pens, the feed, the incubators, the brooders, the electricity but was it worth it????

Oh yes, The exquisite joy of the birthing of a baby!!! Wow....The first turkey we ever hatched with a tut tut here and a tut tut there. The happiness of baking bread just for my gals and guys..The eggs oh wow the eggs, so fresh and tasty and bake and cook so well!!!

Running around and barking like 6 dogs yesterday when 4 hawks swooped down on the only area not over penned.

Yup we had a couple of cars slow down..smile

Having people pull over on our country road and see all the birds in our front yard and saying.....What are you doing here? Are those real turkeys....hhehehe

Walking around playing airplane trying to herd the geese back to their pen.

Teaching chicken, guinea and turkey lovers of all ages how to care for their new eggs or birds from us.....priceless.Sharing our chickies as pets to nearby children and the friends on BYC.....Yup that was priceless.

So, is the holder included in the auction?

(PS....When people ask why we farm full time and work 17 and 18 hour days, we say because it's a commitment to health and our community and only we can make negative funds for working so long, but oh what fun we have!)

opps, typo there. the selling price is 729.94 and not 727.94 that is listed in the text.

The egg holder is actually a napkin ring my son got when we were viewing the Royal Crown Jewels in London. He has been patiently waiting for it to be returned to him. (just a little bit longer - Spencer)

Regarding starting the auction at $1 - where would be the fun in that?

I guess I've gotten off really cheap! So far $130 on food, supplies, pullets and lumber. The stray hen I caught laid 7 eggs before she went on 'vacation', 2 of which were eaten and the other 5 were put in the bator, ended up with 3 chicks from them.

This amount will increase when I get more eggs to incubate and 3 more pullets next week but still I'm doing this mostly on the cheap!

Like an old bra 6 or 7 years ago that someone found in their attic or wall of their 1920s home when they were remodelling. The made up this crazy auction and description and it sold for $$$$ and that auction started at $1 or $10.

If you had told everyone about your costs to get that egg and then started the auction at $1 and had said $20 for shipping, you wouldn't have been out any money. And there would have been a fair to middling chance of quite a bit more. Maybe enough so that you could have had least paid your son for the use of his royal napkin holder. ;-)
