The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Nighty night, now that's the middle of the night for me :gig

I'm a early to bed and early to rise kinda person. I'm far more productive first thing of a morning!!

Ok, here is the video I post at this time for a hatch a long..when eggs start arriving.

If you can get through him talking about the cars in the beginning..he explains he is a P.O. worker.   Watch for the truck, and when he asks..you didn't think we handled everything by hand did you?

Well gee you shoulda put a disclaimer on that now I'm not going to get any sleep! Aaaahhhhhh! Sorry. Just found out that my "eggs for education" that I won as a prize from mypetchicken from the Halloween Hatch-a-long are currently located(finally) in Madison... Did I mention they shipped Monday and I wasn't told until I inquired today? Ahhh! All I can think about is that video you posted

*gulps* I'm scared I'm sure BC of the mypetchicken affiliation they're packed well but I'm worried my last shipped hatch was a total bust. Yes I know it happens but I really want these eggies to turn into chickies :)

Do you think I'd be arrested if I broke into a USPS facility to get my own package? Lol

Hope they're okay tomorrow.
The bator is ready after they rest up. The new thermometer/hygrometer calibrated almost perfectly, as perfect as possible considering it doesn't go to the tenth degree, the humidity may have been off by 1% not a big deal.

I do have a couple questions that are going to make me sound like a newbie but as this is my first hatch with a backup hygrometer/thermometer I wanna be sure I'm doing it right
@Sally Sunshine
I've only ever trusted my incubator thermometer and hygrometer so now that I have this calibrated one(hoping to add a second this weekend) should I just trust it and set the bator accordingly or not? I tried to calibrate the thermometer on my styrobator too by holding it so the probe was suspended in the water/ice mixture I was never able to get it below 35 degrees I find it hard to believe it's off that much since my previous hatches have been on day 21-22.... So I would love some input please.

My second question is that my styrobator temp sensor came stapled to a piece of plastic. I've read through the directions backwards forwards and upside down and no where does it say to remove that staple and plastic. Should I?

You KNOW you would be in trouble for sure if you got that thing!    I won't enable you to buy that.  Nope.

Unless....you have a looot of property, then...SET ALL THE EGGS!

LOL would get in major trouble! Plus don't have the money for it :p

We have about 3 acres, 2.7 or something, but it's my parents plus we're the only house with that much, neighbors behind us and town homes in front. But we're set in the woods so if i can the chickens to not go to the neighbors in back lol

:drool

My dream incubator :love If only..............

So my second test hatch witch is in lockdown on day 19. Already had someone call and wants to buy them all. And had another person call who wants 30 chicks. On my next hatch. So I might have to break out the second bator for the Easter hatch. It's starting to feel like spring. Just posted on Craig's list 3 hours ago. And getting non stop texts. Still hurts to give up those fluffy guys lol.

What are you selling and it must be a really hot price! I want some lol

I try to continuously keep barnyard mixes on hand to sell. I sell them two dollars a chick. Unless they get older and I have to feed them a lot. They sell like hot cakes out here. Just got another order for 25. My moms friend at work had broilers and didn't know. So she just wanted eggs. She said they all just started dying from congestive heart failure. There nurses so I guess they think they can figure out the cause of death. I don't know how long broilers are supposed to live. But I do know they are breed to be culled quickly. I told her my barnyard mixes lay great. Iv talked to a few people from last spring who says there's are great layers. I was getting 9-12 eggs a day from 19 barnyard mixes this winter. They do free range all day so that might factor in on there good laying.

Building another incubator, and if I can get it up & running, I'll be joining the Easter Hatch-A-Long. I'm using @Sally Sunshine's design for the cabinet cooler bator. But going to attempt making an auto turner - found some ideas on YouTube; no instructions, foreign language, but it's worth a try!
