The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Hello Everyone!

We are back to hatch at our Assisted Living Senior Living! This year we have moved to the Cottages which is a Assisted Living and Memory Care, in northeast Wisconsin. We will be setting 24 eggs total at two different locations with 85 Seniors enjoying the experience. My name is Phil, and you may know me as "Ridgeline Hens" So Glad to be apart of the bigger picture!

I don't have any eggs or $ to get hatching eggs for the hatch a long. I'll still cheer everyone on but I'm not going to be able to take part. My egg provider fell through.
I have barnyard mixes I could prob give you a dozen or so where are you located

Are you anywhere near Bama and @1kluckychik (Skipperville) or @Wisher1000 (Tuscaloosa) ? I know they are both in LA.

How long to hens need to be with a rooster before they start laying fertile eggs?
It depends a little on the rooster. A young one might not establish a high enough "rank" in the pecking order for quite some time, and the hens may reject him until then, especially if they are higher ranking. Once you see the rooster mount the hens then it only takes a couple of days for the eggs to be fertile.

Great! Thanks for the info!! Just put our Cochin rooster in a separate pen with our Cochin hen this weekend, hoping to get a few pure bred eggs for the Easter HAL, rest of them will be mixes :)
