The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

So this is my first time in a hatch along and I'm wondering what to do next. I signed up and I'm on the list. Do I just post how many eggs I am going to set? This has been a lot of fun reading the thread and I'm excited about doing a hatch with everyone else.

I just finished a hatch 4 weeks ago and have 10 healthy chicks out in the coop separated from my 12 hens and 2 roosters. I'm planning on setting 30 eggs on the 5th.

Thanks for any information on how to proceed

Day 1 is after a full 24 hours of incubation, not the day you set them in the incubator. Setting on the 5th is day 0, day 1 is the 6th, day 2 is the 7th and so on

X2 I never count the day I put them in the bator

So when you guys are counting to play hide and seek or something of the sort do you start by going 0,1,2,3........or do you start with 1,2,3.....?

Well I have not played hide and seek in many a year :old
But I would start with one.

If you have only just put the eggs in the bator there is no development in them untill they reach the optimum temperature and cells start dividing so there is nothing to count. After a full 24 hours of incubation that is day 1.

Hide and seek is so irrelevant in this type of scenario. The eggs have no development when you first put them in. This is not something I came up with. It's just a rule of thumb that most everyone uses. But if you want to start counting from the second you put them in you should. After all there your eggs. I was just sharing the knowledge I have learned and my hands on experience from incubating 100s of eggs.
