The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

If you wanted to be super specific, you can absolutely count day 1 exactly 24 hours after you put the eggs in the incubator. To simplify things, and since chicks don't normally hatch EXACTLY 504 hours after the begin incubating, day one is the day after you set the eggs, and worry less about exact time frame.

I can put this no better :D

Sure! Hi!

What are you thinking of hatching?

I wish I could join but no incubator or eggs so I'm just here for the cute chicks

turkey and might put some chicken eggs in a few days to hatch together

Sorry I'll go play devils advocate somewhere else. I know chicks don't wear watches and hatch when they are ready. Just seems weird that the only time you start counting with 0 is with chickens.

Chicken math, dontcha know? :gig

My son is already involved in chicken math at 6yrs old lol - we have some chicks coming mid March but now we'll be hatching some as well, so he's adding how many we'll have...(depending on how hatch goes!) and then when we go in TSC, he and sister keep begging, "moooommm! Can't we just get a few more...what about 2 more? 1 more?"

My son doesn't even realize how many that would cause us to end up with...& he doesn't care lol he just loves them! And when I told them we were hatching our own, they screamed with excitement! Lol

Not really. If I were to make dough, and needed to let it rise two hours, I wouldn't start the clock at 1 hour.

When you were born, you were not 1 day old until 24 hours from your time of birth. Chick embryos are 0 until heat is provided. They are 1 day old after 24 hours of heat.

Incubation starts within and hour of the heat getting to it. The eggs will hatch in about 504 hours from setting them. Use google to add 504 hours to the day you set the eggs and see what day that is.
