The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

hugs.gif

I met the Hog Creek guy and his wife. They were really nice. They now have some of my isabelle leghorn chicks!

Hoping your hatches are beyond wonderful!

You guys are the good peeps!!! I am very blessed.

They are great about answering questions too. Hope ALL your hatches are great. All 3 bators full lol

Ahh I really want some different variety Orpingtons!! May have to eventually get some from cree or this hog creek place i keep hearing of.

@cree57i doesn't raise Orpingtons . The roo she gave me was the only hatch from eggs she ordered. She has some beautiful SFH, Isabelle leghorns, Isbars and she had some BCMs but don't know if she still does.

Ok experts. Still need help on this one. One day off 8 weeks old. Roo or pullet I'm stumped on this guy. Day was a barred rock mom was a EE.

If you post it on the EE sexing thread, those people are crazy good at being able to tell. I'm feeling like its a female based on the even coloring, but I'm no expert.

Well darn! Was hoping to win an auction tonight - I don't have very many eggs to incubate for the Hatchalong - anyone have any they could ship that would get to me in TX by Friday?? Pretty, pretty PLEASE?! Let me know what you might have, price, etc - thanks so much for any help!!

If you haven't any offers I might be able to get 8-12 barnyard mixes sent out to you. If you don't mind mixes, I'd gladly send them to you for free. My parents are going to think I'm crazy. This is the fourth offer I've made to send eggs for free.

My Ayam Cemani eggs just got here! The auction was for 8+, she told me she was sending ten, and she sent 12! One broke, one has a loose air cell, one doesn't have an air cell I can see, not sure about it. 5 are saddle celled, but this is pretty great! They came from Idaho to California. She said the eggs were laid on the 25th.

I love ayam cemanis! I hope they all hatch!

Just set 30 call duck eggs for the hatch a long.

Cool. Do you know what color they'll be?

They sure are...

They're pretty things.

So this is my first time in a hatch along and I'm wondering what to do next. I signed up and I'm on the list. Do I just post how many eggs I am going to set? This has been a lot of fun reading the thread and I'm excited about doing a hatch with everyone else.

I just finished a hatch 4 weeks ago and have 10 healthy chicks out in the coop separated from my 12 hens and 2 roosters. I'm planning on setting 30 eggs on the 5th.

Thanks for any information on how to proceed

Congrats on the chicks! And welcome to the HAL!

The more information you give the more fun it is.

I'm still not sure the number or breeds I'm setting, but I can only fit so many in my incubator.

My son is already involved in chicken math at 6yrs old lol - we have some chicks coming mid March but now we'll be hatching some as well, so he's adding how many we'll have...(depending on how hatch goes!) and then when we go in TSC, he and sister keep begging, "moooommm! Can't we just get a few more...what about 2 more? 1 more?"
1f602.png
My son doesn't even realize how many that would cause us to end up with...& he doesn't care lol he just loves them! And when I told them we were hatching our own, they screamed with excitement! Lol

Oh yeah, chicken math starts early.

You know, if you want to hatch more eggs, maybe you could find someone who wants you to hatch for them. Its a great excuse. The only problem is, you may just fall in love with those chicks and want to keep them.
lol.png

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks. It was really hard, still is hard. They just kept dying even though I spent hours and hours doing my best to keep them alive. I mean, I know I can't blame myself, but there are still so many "if I only..."s going through my head.

I lost Canary yesterday and it made me cry.

I buried her next to Snart.

I'm definitely in, setting 15 chicken eggs!
Welcome! 15 is a great number!

Ok guys so I messed up big time. I got so excited when I got my first green egg that I added it to the incubator then thought "this egg is going to need buddies" so I added three more. I created a staggered hatch due to hatch a week after my first hatch and now today day 18, the air cells are too small! I need help! Humidity right now is at 18%

It might sound crazy, but if you have a heat light or some other constant source of heat you could try making a home-made incubator. Put the younger eggs in it for the few days the others need to hatch, then return them to the proper incubator.

I just have two chicks drown in their eggs so I would certainly keep an eye out on humidity.

Shoot!! I hate to say it but I need to be removed from the list... I have eggs that wont hatch till the 12th of March so it will be to late for me!
1f622.png
Could you try a little stagger hatching? Could a friend incubate your eggs the first few days until you can take them?

Even if you can't join, feel free to keep up. Or even hatch chicks a few days late! We don't mind!

Okay so i haven't checked this thread for a while but I'm just now coming to share my udder happiness with you all.

I BOUGHT SERAMA EGGS FOR THE HAL!
celebrate.gif

PS... Ebay is a dangerous place for us hatchers...
gig.gif

Oh yeah. I would buy everything there if I could!

Congrats on the seramas.

I'm in!!! This is my very first hatch a long!!!
big_smile.png

Cool! Welcome to the Easter hatch-a-long!
woot.gif

Do you know what you are setting?

Yeah mine too I'm so excited

My eggs from AZ shipped yesterday. The ones from CA. shipped today. The ones from OR are not laying...HA! they don't want to go cross country...
sickbyc.gif
We will try again tomorrow on those.

I need positive thoughts to get any of them through Memphis intact!

On another note, did a spot check of the Brinsea Advanced that I've been calibrating every hatch. I am now in lockdown with this hatch. The temp was 97.4 by spot check and 99.1 by digital.
th.gif
It recalibrated back into agreement with the spot check though and has held for 14 hours so far.

I'm thinking that one needs to take a trip to get recalibrated at the factory. Does anyone know the turn around time for Brinsea?
In the mean time, I'm doing a spot check every time I look at the eggs. I would break out the eco, but can't get to it without moving the brooder with the bigger little chicks in it.

They are moving outside Friday! Always a joyous occasion!
yippiechickie.gif
You've got a lot of eggs coming! I'm so jealous.
