The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

So iv set 10 Orust eggs yesterday. Will set some barnyard mixes tomorrow. So will have my official count tomorrow.

I hope you have better luck than I have. Mine are about to go to lockdown but even though the outside box had no damage most of the eggs were scramble it seems. One arrived totally smashed. Most likely someone tossed it for spite. Shaken baby syndrome. I think I have 6 eggs out 19 that are going to hatch anything. I have one that the yolk shadow looks broke but it also looks like it has some veins. I may leave that one in just to see what happens. That would be 5 Orust and 1 Twenste that have any hope. I didn't photo because I could take the loss of one egg but I didn't concider that most of the other eggs while not breaking the shell were scrambled.

I will be setting 32 eggs, mostly EE and OE and one Toppy Game/Silkie cross egg. I was hoping to get another of the game silkie cross but she is being stingy.

Question for all the experts: I candled my shipped eggs last night, and one had a detached air cell. Quite a few others were saddle-shaped. Will it help them to let them rest (in an egg carton under my sink where it is cool) until tomorrow? Had planned on setting tomorrow but if it will hurt them to stay for another day, I'd start them this evening.

The detached air cell will do better with incubation and no turning for three days. That is not best for eggs that do not have detached air cells so if you do not have a way to incubate the one egg without turning, then start turning all of them.

It is important to get them incubating because the age of the egg before incubation is more important for shipped eggs.

Happy hatching!

No problem!

Guess I shoulda looked where you were from first. Ha! Problem with the Internet I guess........ lol

But also the most awesome feature. A few years ago on the Sheep-L forum, a shepherd from Australia was having problems when a drug gang bought the land next to him. If they were low on groceries they would just help themselves to one of his sheep. They would leave his paddock gates open and the sheep would get out. They tore around on his property in ATVs. He had been keeping us riveted for several weeks with updates. The local police wouldn't help him. I think they were intimidated by the strength of this gang. Finally, he came on one day and told us that they had burned him in effigy at his front gate. He told us that if we didn't hear from him again then he was probably dead. Several of the members called the Australian Embassies both here in the States and in Britain and I think Canada too. Within 48 hours the drug dealers were raided and taken away. That is the power of global friendship!

Oh I didn't even realize they show up on the desktop version - I just remember your in uk from other threads. I'm in aust , and will turn the incubator on when I get up again , although 2am sat now so might be a good time to start, based on past experience that would have them starting to pip around 7am on a Friday.

2 am  Get to sleep!! Goodness I've had 5 hours by 2 in a morning :old

OK. I'll start my hatch this afternoon. I've got one of the egg racks in the turner detached from the motor just for eggs that don't want to be turned. Will put them there.
