The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

@mlm Mike just want to give you a quick update. My other eggs didn't show up today so my total for the HAL is 71. Thanks for keeping track of us!

Saga of the shipped eggs continues... These came from Oregon to TN AND THEY ARE PERFECT!!!! None of the air cells were even detached! 6 beautiful original import Isbar eggs. Thank you Candi Johnson!
They're stunning. Okay ladies and gents idk if I should say this now or wait.... I may be adding more eggs tomorrow as I have a broody silkie(although she's my ditziest bird sweet and good natured and I'll be trimming her crest tomorrow but let's just say last time she tried to hatch she was in the middle of the floor and missed the eggs by a foot lol no joke I hope trimming her crest helps) at least she's in a nest box now. :) Anywho the incubator was set tonight and don't ask me how it happened idk lol DH2B got excited and just kept telling me "more" lol doesn't like the chickens yeah right! Lol so our turner holds 42 and we have 48 in the bator... Explain it to me lol he was like a kid in a candy store and wouldn't let me take any out. He just kept saying well you know its not like they're all fertile probably. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow and we'll let you know if we give Lovey any eggs or let her sit on dummy eggs until lockdown on these. Lol so for right now the count is 48 eggs and I'll give everyone the breakdown tomorrow or well here see for yourselves. :)

We'll be setting our eggs tomorrow evening...I have to share my crazy chicken lady story related to the HAL...so my girls weren't giving me a lot to choose from for adding to the hatch and sahwithchicks (Nicole) was ever so awesome and sent me 8 eggs of hers!

She and I discussed how she'd label the box and add my number, specifying to the PO - NOT TO DELIVER - call ME TO PICKUP! Just to be in the safe side, I called our PO (& we're a rather small town) and told them that this box was coming and when it would arrive and that I absolutely did NOT want it out in the route to be delivered (being bounced around in the 4WD jeeps they drive here)
They wrote everything down (supposedly) and assured me they were on top of it.

FFWD to this AM, I see they arrived at our PO at 6:47am so I'm patiently waiting until they open to go get them...I let Nicole know they were here and as I was heading out, she mentioned she'd checked the tracking too and it now said "out for delivery"....WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!

I called them up and I could tell they had an "oh crap" moment when they heard my voice. I said "where are those eggs?? It say out for delivery - and it shouldn't!!"
They put me on hold and called the carrier and sure enough, they were piled in her jeep and on her route with her. I asked where she was and they directed her to stay there - picture me hauling booty from the farm to the edge of the next town I catch up with her and rescue those eggs!!!

Thankfully, they seem to be in excellent co diction thanks to Nicole's stellar packaging skills! (I haven't candled yet to see what abuse the PO may have inflicted along the way) but the box was in great shape, and labeled with NEON labels with my number right on top - I could tell the carrier was a bit embarrassed that she missed notifications that were THAT OBVIOUS LOL...(I think she was also a little scared at how I came to a nearly screeching halt on the side of the road when catching up to her lolllll)

(Just call me crazy chicken momma!)

Anyway, I'll add some pics of Nicole's packaging and the eggs. I have 8 to set from Nicole - my girls have given us a few but I'll need to recount them now and at the last minute tonight, I was able to buy some from a local gal - 18 total from her - 6 marans, 6 exquecher & 6 Amercauna!

I can't even tell you how excited we are for this first family hatch! (All of my kids are involved - well, the 4 younger ones at least) and Easter weekend is also my birthday!!!

Chicken Eggs Set:
7 Black Copper Marans
13 Iowa Blues
86 Iowacanas (pet project)

Total Chicken Eggs Set: 106

(Will post an addendum if my box of quail eggs happens to come this week, but that's probably it.)

@mlm Mike I promise I won't add anymore eggs after this. The final count is 90 and it's not going any higher. @LocalYokel I finally got a pic of Marble for you. It's still gross in that pen, but she was by herself so I took it. Here's the rest of the flock(s) Blizzard and his girls plus Ducky Girl. Saint and some of his girls. Marble is in this pen. Oddball and Jewel. Jet is moving in with them soon. Jewel is starting to look rough. I have no eggs from them for this hatch. @Amberjem this is my dancing roo. Talos and his girls Nocturnal and Azura. I'll get a pic of Jet after I move her.
You or DH is a Skyrim fan, eh??

:highfive: Gorgeous and good luck!!
Somebody was so kind to send porcelain d'Uccle eggs to my son after he lost his entire flock. It also happened to be his birthday. We will set these eggs tomorrow. Unfortunately, every one of them has a really messed up air cell. Some are rolling, some go half way down the egg....but maybe out of those that have saddle shaped cells, something will live. :fl These eggs are not related to his lost flock, but there are a couple other kind people who bought eggs from him last year, who will also be shipping a few eggs to us soon. So hopefully he will soon have a whole new flock with some of his own bloodlines back. Total we will set for the HAL is 18. Just the d'Uccles. (Famous last words!)
:thumbsup That's awesome!!! So glad you are getting eggs to rebuild your sons flock!!
