many many times. Tonight will be no different

Are you surviving the storm up there Ron. Very windy here off 80 corridor. Leave it to a set to get the power to go off. So far so good.
We are fine so far!

A lot of water and some wind. I had to put two hens into their coop tonight though.

That's funny...I was just getting ready to get on and ask you what you set penmaster. :)

I set, 21 EE's, and was going to set 6 silkies, but there was an accident involving those at the home I went to pick them up at...but, got two out of the 6 .. and it looks like one is developing already, just one day in..took a peek..big nice orange dot floating around in one.

Too bad you aren't hatching! Man, NN silkies? No fair. I love those birds. I have a couple outside. They are cute to hatch. This one little silkie egg..could be..a SG..he wasn't sure if he got one of hers or not. Will be a surprise, if it makes it that is.

Question: should I clean the dirt off this turkey egg before setting it? Picked up egg wash just in case

Don't wash it but dip it in vinegar and let air dry before putting it in the incubator. It will keep any germs from multiplying. When I haven't done this I have gotten at least a couple of stinker eggs with green goo. With the vinegar the eggs that don't hatch at least don't rot.

Everything I've seen/read says that you need whatever you use to wash the egg (water, solution, whatever) to be WARMER than the egg, or there is a risk of drawing bacteria into the egg.

I used a dilute bleach solution at about 100°F (I used a thermometer and kept heating it up in the microwave when it cooled - no higher than 115°F) to wash some eggs that were both poopy and had a lot of broken egg all over them (bad shipment). No icky or oozy eggs.

FWIW...
