The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Ameri-flower is a special mix that [@=/u/1236/MyPetChicken]@MyPetChicken[/@] does.

Any more specifics? Do they lay special eggs? Are they pretty colors? Etc.

This was taken from the MPC website:

Ameri-Flowers - Most of these chicks will hatch crested, and grow into large, friendly birds that will lay green eggs. All of the flash of a Blommehonne, with production-like laying!

MY Birthday tooo!
Yay March 26th!
My eggs are set and ready to go. Set 12 backyard mixes with a possibility of a purebred Black Rock.
I am doing spread sheets on temperature&humidity, egg candling&pip/zip time and chick id and maybe daily weight.

That's totally cool!! It's MY birthday too......

in the Month of March....................

but...........................................

not on the 26th. It's another day.

Usually it's the day some cow thinks it's a GREAT idea to have twisted twins....or some other anomaly like that. So I get covered in cow goo from head to toe while I extract the twins...or something like that.

Totally true! It's what I was doing last year AND the year before that. It was the ONLY assist there was last year. On second thought...let's not think about my birthday!!

I'm hoping your birthday will be MUCH better!!! I'm sure it will be...it'll be filled with baby chicks!!

I found a solution for my eggs due while I am gone in the form of a broody hen someone could not keep. She was sitting on at least 20 eggs, and she's a bantam! They did not separate her, so all hers are at different development stages. Should I stick em in my spare bator to see what happens?
Left broody in new pen (indoor brooder) with a blanket on the top and 3 of her eggs. Crossing fingers she settles down on them. If so, I plan to trade her for my 8 GFF line eggs due Sat.
She's a cutie-looks like a bantam barred rock. Almost made me cry-lost my favorite hen who was a full-size br.

I noticed my birds acting strange the last few days... this morning I seen why. I have a hawk.

Hopefully I can drive her away before the babies come.
I always have hawks. Always (they nest in or near my yard). But there have been a lot more around in the past day or so - it's that time of year.

My brothers wife just stretches a wire back and forth across the top of her chicken run to deter the hawks, seems to work wonderfully. I don't have an outdoor run built yet, but I plan to do the same thing.
We actually used bright purple strips of cloth in a huge "spider-web" to stop the hawks.

A very unique looking yard but it worked.
I have several different "family groups" and they have large fenced paddocks (which I rotate to allow the ground to recover). I stretch that surveyor tape back and forth criss-crossed over the top of the paddock. While not perfect protection, it has worked well so far, and new hawks occasionally perch in trees just above them as if they are trying to figure it out, before giving up. I realize they may make it trough one day, but it's a reasonable deterrent. That, and most of my chickens have good instincts about when to take cover.

My yard looked horrific with all that criss-crossed pink tape - so I ordered dark green tape off of Amazon. Still works, but looks a lot better.

@draye , are you thinking what I'm thinking?! These are BEGGING to be crossed with NNs as part of the Calico/Aloha NN goal! I look forward to seeing what these turn out to be like...

I'd stick them in the bator. Even if they hatch at different times its still great to give each one a chance.

Best of luck!

And I definitely am interested in that cross.

agreed. Just put tgem in after candling. Lots of different development stages, some looks a few days and some 14.
Broody Chica settled down, trading out the 3 staggered day eggs tomorrow for the 8 I want her to hatch. The 20-odd (good night that's a lot!) are in my LG bator. Don't think they'll count for the HAL as most will hatch before the 24. Now to find buyers for a bunch of bantam chicks...

Wish I could participate this year but my eggs aren't here yet..... My fault
Always next year... but this year I get to watch the experts and learn from them :pop

My pre-HAL hatch ran into a hiccup. One of the lightbulbs burned out for 6 to 8 hours so I have a delayed hatch. So I have my 109 A&Ms in the cradle turners and the hatching eggs at the bottom on the floor of the bator. The low water trays are covered with hardware cloth to keep anyone from drowning. These should have hatched between Thursday and Saturday. I was beginning to dispair that anything would hatch. So I went down to turn the eggs and check the humidity and one of the silver coturnix had zipped!
wee.gif
I went to lay it on the ground (it was in a quail tray) so it could kick out easier. When I picked up the egg it gave a squirm and the legs unfolded and he popped right out of the egg into my hand.
jumpy.gif
So even if nothing else hatches I have one silver quail!
I'll get some pics posted tomorrow.
