The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Quote: I had thought of that, but she's vicious when another hen gets in her space. She's not at the bottom, which is why I can't figure this out. Of course, now that I say it, I kinda wonder if she's stressing over the other hens getting too close?

crock pot ? ^^^^^^^^
She'd probably taste bad. Not to mention, she's an awesome layer. I just can't stand her escape attempts and biting me when I catch her. Everyone else in her pen is friendly... ish.

Quote: I hope not, but I'll read up on it, just in case it is.

I wonder if that no pick stuff would work for ones that peck ME???? Course the thick purple goo may stain my pants so maybe not a good idea... plus i thibk its just bad habits from lack of space as babies/that they also think my pants are food but still. It's annoying. Also they all yell at me when I go outside! Well i thought it was all,but just the Australorps. Sometimes the others make quieter/happy noises and greet me but the lorps yell and yell and yell and i cant figure it out

@ronott1 After reading Sally's article on it, I think you may be right and she may not be the only one.

So, I have another question: Could this possibly be caused by overly wet/muddy conditions? The run is all dry now, but it gets down right nasty in there when it rains.

Yes, it is a digestion problem that lets yeast grow in the digestive track. You need to get pro biotics in them--get them some grit too.

Guess what! Treatment is monistat.

It looks like it is early because the gray mess is not there yet so good catch!

Are they free range or locked up? If they are locked up, do they have an area they can dust bathe? I had mites only once. And that was when I don't have a dust bathing area. I put a plastic tub in with sand and dirt mix for them.
Tub is cut like in the pic. I also used a spare one inch pvc pipe for the bottom edge of the cut part, slit one side of pic and put over the edge so the chickens could stand on it. I have 3 of them use it at once sometimes, they don't lay eggs in it because they like their nesting boxes with straw instead of dirt and sand
