The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Which goose hatched your goslings?! And who was the father of these goslings?
Well, some were fathered by my white Chinese gander, Gee. The brown goslings were from "Jerk" the brown African/Chinese mix Gander. I have several goose. (He was a stinker as a young adult, hence the name Jerk) My Embdens hatched their own mostly, one hen flew over (yes she clears a 6 ft fence!) to the chinese pen and hatched out 2 mixes.. I also have a sportsman 1502 digital cabinet incubator. We hatch several hundred ducks, turkey, chicken, guinea quail etc every year. I raise most of the animals for our family's food. We also keep milking goats, hogs and a cow or 3. The only birds that are not food are the geese, they are my pets.

Interesting, I have hatched this year two African/Chinese females and i am going to see what you will get(i am gussing that you will get the normal Africans from Metzer and no dewlap).I wonder if this is true, My African/Chinese gander is big and i wonder if the females will be big enough(My two females are both only 5 months old).

They are just the Dewlap Africans in my avatar(there is no such thing as super Africans, the super Africans are the actual Africans but just given another name because Metzers has another breed called Africans which is just a African/Chinese cross.

Do you feel they are a good example of the African breed for a hatchery? I cannot find any local breeders. I am considering a trio (sexed goslings) possibly next year. I hear very good comment on metzer's waterfowl. I get numerous calls looking for Africans, and want to be able to offer the breed eventually.

Hey all I was wondering about how long does it take for the eggs to hatch she has played about 16-20 eggs at this point IV left them all in the nest for its her first go round should I take out the older ones or will she get rid of them on her own she does sit on them but I don't know if they are fetal or not

if she is off the nest, or at dark, you can candle a few eggs with a bright flashlight to look for red blood veins. Some geese will hoard gobs of eggs, and once she has too many, none will hatch. I have a young embden goose laying still, but not hatching any until spring so I am just taking eggs. Our winters are just too cold to let her raise goslings now. I am really shocked she is laying.

Happy thanksgiving to all of you that celebrate it
