OK, I see it wasn´t you, someone else was on the Pom thread with the same problem....you could both compare results!!!Hi fowlmamma, did you post this on a different thread? Because I already answered a question just like this this morning.
I suggested taking the eggs away, let them hatch indoors under a lamp, keeping them damp, then give the fluffy, dry gozzies back to mum, or the sister goose if she´s feeling broody still she may well accept them,( but she may be more interesting in getting back onto her nest). You´ll have to keep a close eye on them. If you give them to the sitting goose, only leave her sitting on those eggs for 2 days max once she has the babies, as she needs to come off the nest for them to drink etc. My goose was horrified at the hatching goslings, one died, so I hatched the rest out indoors and put them back with mum the day after and she was fine.
All you can do is let your hens do their job. They are pretty protective of their babies.I forgot to mention the proud daddy is my beloved african gander Hansel....he's just a year old! I'm so proud of him!
i use warm moist paper towel to release the membrane. I also use cotton swab if they are stuck. If it has a hernia it will need help.Ok guys really going to need some help with this.....2nd gosling hatched....sort of. It still has some eggshell/membrane dried on it, it has what appears to be a large umbilical hernia, cannot really hold its head up, isn't really fluffy and therefore appears to be considerably smaller than gosling 1. It is chirping and cooing along with its big brother/sister.
I have both inside together.
What can I do for gosling 2? The hernia? Leave it? Ugh.....it's nearly 2am here and I'm really tired, really worried and super stressed. How do I get that egg membrane off? It's hard as a rock....I'll take all the help I can get.....thanks bunches in advance.....
