The African and Chinese goose thread!!

ADDITIONAL NOTE:

Momma goose still has 4 eggs shes sitting on....it's day 30 -31.....AND I had the two sisters laying eggs in the same nest so I''m really unsure what to expect....Here's my plan...PLEASE anyone chime in if they have BETTER advice....
I'm going to do absolutely nothing but provide food and water to momma goose thats sitting, (which btw she is NOT eating and I can't be sure she's even drinking, a whole OTHER STRESS) if there are no babies by the end of the week I will candle and go from there....Any thoughts on this plan? and any thoughts on my goose that's sitting and not eating or drinking.....she's nest obsessed!

UPDATE
Gosling #2 is still alive this morning, very weak, not holding it's head up and not moving much. It is much more fuzzy than it was last night, except where the membrane is stuck. The umbilical area is WAY smaller this morning and looks dry and crusty...
Is there anything I can do to help it? Gosling #1 is a beefcake, rambling everywhere and talking up a storm!!!
This baby thing is WAY TOO stressful for me....I think I prefer not to go through the hatching stage anymore...my heart can't take the suffering of these tiny babies....Which creates a WHOLE new stress....Broody Geese! AHHHH
Sounds like maybe it came out a bit early? ("hernia" may have been the yolk not quite absorbed, or just the umbilical being slow to dry?) Just keep #2 nice and warm, the other gozzie will encourage it along hopefully. some take a while to wake up. Don´t worry yet about the membrane being stuck...you can see to that when baby´s stronger.

Yes, livininbrazil, I did post on the Pom thread initially as well as this one, wasn't sure where to go? Still not real sure how all this works

No need to stress. So what happened, then? Did you take out the eggs that were pipped and hatch them indoors?

Your goose that´s sitting. don´t worry, she´ll eat and drink when she needs to. Just keep a little something near her. You can candle the eggs to see if there´s anything going on in there. If so, you can leave her quite happily for a while until they hatch, but by now they really should have pipped.

You have two potential mums here. If you think the 4 eggs are all no good, give the sitting mum the babies, then take the eggs away after an hour or two or more.....and watch carefully to see if she broods the babies. (as long as the tiny one is strong enough, of course). If you think there´s life in those eggs, you could see if the other (evicted) goose wants to brood the babies. Maybe try the older gosling with her, then when the other is strong enough, add it. Much depends on your geese, really.

Well tried banana with the geese this weekend they didn't seem to like it tasted it then snubbed it. Tried strawberries to but they wouldn't even taste it. What do your geese like for snacks??

Gosling #2 passed......Such a shame for it to have to suffer so long.....It doesn't make sense to me and certainly doesn't seem right......I truly hate it, it makes my heart ache....

The GOOD NEWS...Gosling #1, the "beefcake" is still doing famously! Haven't decided on a name yet....I'm too scared to try to vent sex to see if male or female....

Momma goose (clyde or lydikins as we call her) update...

I took fresh food and water to her this am and got her off her nest to inspect the remaining 4 eggs.....one is hatching!! I'm steering clear until I see FUZZ!!!
I truly appreciate you Livininbrazil....It's very very comforting to have solid feedback and advice especially when one really doesn't know what they're doing!!
Sister goose Darla and Daddy gander Hansel are blocked from entering where she is but can easily see her and communicate with one another. Darla, at times seems stressed about not being able to get on that nest! I feel awful for keeping her out but I feel it's in the best interest of the remaining eggs....
I'll post an update this evening.
Thanks again to ALL who have given advice and encouragement, I'm grateful.....and I'm learning.....

Ok, sorry about the gozzie. We try so hard to save them, but sometimes we don´t manage to. I had a nice little Brahmas chick a while back, the sole survivor of a dozen bought eggs, and it got pox (common here) and couldn´t see anything because of the pox on its little face. I hand-fed it 3 times a day for a week, but it eventually died. It was so young. Others, 3 weeks older, also got it and I had to hand-feed them, too, as they couldn´t see either, but they´re almost recovered now. The rewards are the ones we do manage to help.

Why not try the surviving gosling with Darla and the daddy? They may be very happy to look after it.
And I wouldn´t worry about trying to vent sex it. It doesn´t matter at this stage what sex it is. And the name 'Beefcake' sounds great!

Well the egg/gosling that was hatching today I found dead half hatched this evening. ..I'm so discouraged & I feel mad...what the heck is going on? The gosling was fully formed & looked completely normal.....except it was dead.....three eggs remain....I'm ready for this to be over with....too stressful and heart wrenching..I'm dreading these last three eggs...I'm so worried their going to die too........I'm so grateful for our healthy gosling! I'm MORE than happy to raise baby myself. I DO NOT want ANYTHING happening to this baby!
I plan to spoil it rotten! Like I said before, I adore my three geese & have a truly unique bond with Hansel my African gander....so this baby is super duper special to me....don't get me wrong...I love my ducks too.....there's simply a different type of bond with them.....
I can't imagine hand feeding all those babies LB. Wow! That's a lot of work! Way to go! Like you said the reward is SO worth all the effort!
