The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I have a goose bout ready to hatch some eggs and my options are to... Take half the goslings-leave them all-take them all- would the geese protect them from rats or not
Rats like alot of them or just a few in their natural habitat?I'd say leave the gosling mama and papa are pretty good at defending their goslings from anything except a larger predator like mink or weasel or Snapping turtles. Or of course the really large preds. You have them in secure housing right?

Would the goose be ok without help from the gander because he does not really care about her

She really needs the gander they work as a team can you fix their area so it is secure from any preds, it would be such a shame to take her gosling after she has brooded for so long, unless of course she proved to be an unfit mama.
What do you mean he doesn't care about her they aren't a mated pair?

They are expected the gander has two females and only cares about the one

I guarantee you when those gosling hatch all three of them will be body guards. just ask jtn he had 8 gosling hatch under one of his geese the other female and the gander have all took part in raising them up to 4 weeks old now. They love those goslings.

Now all I've gotta do is wait and see what happens but I'll take lots of pics and keep you updated on them

Can anyone tell goose or gander from this picture? The brown is most definitely a goose.

The white is a gander. My pair look exactly like them!
