The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I know this is a goose thread but I was wondering if anyone could tell me about my chickens. A couple of my birds have nasty stuff around their vents. They all poop fine and continue laying.

And could this be molting?

My gander is losing quite a bit of his feathers, but he doesn't have any patchy spots. I was worried he is distressed, because I lost the hen. He doesn't seem upset, and still talks to me. He doesn't seem sick either. Is anything wrong or is he just molting?

Your gander is most likely molting it's the time of year for it.

If your seeing a white discharge it could be vent gleet go to search at top of page and type it in lots of info. The pic of the reddened skin looks like someone is pecking feathers out, Have you checked for mites or lice, happens alot this time of year. mites will be tiny blk pepper looking and they move fast they live in the cracks and crevices of our coops and come out at night to feed on our birds. Lice will be attached the the feather shaft around the vent. they are light tanish. Oh and vent gleet smells too.Sometimes a couple of my hens wil lget messy bottoms and i wash them real well then let the feathers dry and clip them around the vent this helps to keep things from sticking to them

Stormy if you think your chickens may have gleet, I was talking to another member and she says it would be a good idea to take a sample to a vet and let them determine what kind of gleet, seems it isn't all yeast.

Hi everyone. New here... been lurking for quite some time on the forums(mostly in chickens) but never posted.

Anyway. Tonight I'm picking up three one month old 'African' goslings locally. Hand raised.
I don't know if they are the Super Africans or the standard mixed with Chinese Africans that are typically sold, but I'm pretty sure they won't be dewlaps.
No problem for me.
I'm hoping for at least one lady in the group obviously... fingers crossed!

This is my first time with geese, and I'm pretty excited.
I'm hoping that they will be happy here... I live on two acres of lush, organically, tended lawn, with an additional two acres of mown pasture.

I have enjoyed the antics of so many goslings in this thread. Looking forward to some silly gooses in my own back yard.

Today I saw this near my chickens. I'm not sure what it is. When I poked it,tiny white bugs came out of it? Do you think it could be harmful?
