The Ameraucana Thread: Where everything and anything about the breed can be discussed (APA, Non-Stan

Honestly, I don't know what they are. Maybe you all can tell? I had ordered B/W last fall and then there was a cold snap and their hens stopped laying, so I waited til spring to get them and she sent extra. They were labeled but I never thought to write it down or look at the unhatched eggs. Ten out of twenty four hatched. Another thing I had to go to the post office three times because they couldn't find them the first two times-looked in the wrong spot I think. I think I am lucky any hatched.
I am not an expert by any means. By B/W did you mean blue and wheaten chicks? If so the white ones look like they could be either wheaten or splash. I think it's hard to tell before they get some feathers in. Most of them look blue and one is obviously black. They are absolutely adorable!

I have a question, I have 6 easter eggers/ ameraucanas. But their coop is only 12.8 sq ft. and the run is 40 sq ft. They will free range every day. Is this enough room?

Do they have access to the run and the coop at all times? Your sq ft would be 52 which is a bit close (optimal is 10 sq ft/bird).. But if they can get away from any tormenters in the coop (fly up to a perch or hide in a nesting box for instance) then they have enough room. If they are going to go outside all day every day that is more than enough room.

they will have access to both the coop and run every day, and will get to free range for 3-5 hours every day. thanks for the help!

How can you tell that they are not Americaunas? I don't mind either way because I was just hoping for multi-colored eggs, but I'd love to know the difference. It would be a relief if they are in fact pullets since I'm pretty sure one of my Barred Plymouth Rocks is a roo.
True Americaunas have very strict color standards. None of my birds fit into any of the color catagories.

HOWEVER....I just picked up four purebred Americauna chicks. This breeder was expecting a number of blues to be hatched. When I went to her place, I saw mostly what looked like wheatens and blue wheatens. I did see two that looked like they would be lavendars and grabbed them up. The other two looked like BW or Wheatens.

Most of the chicks I see here have no "chipmunk" markings. Mine do (I'll submit pics tomorrow). I saw her breeders and she said the parents had won a couple of best in breed at some shows. I guess I'll let you guys give an opinion when I post photos.

The only accepted variety with chipmunk stripes are silver.
