I have an araucana rooster with brown hens and araucana hens. Some have grey shanks, some have pinkish shanks. Do araucanas have grey shank genes?

Is the comb of the offspring always going to be a pea comb, as is the fathers, regardless if the hen is a brown or an araucana. Getting a little confused about genetics here. I know the genes are criss crossed with the offspring, but does that mean ALL of the genes from the parent, every single one.

I heard that the rooster governs the shape of the comb, but need to really know.

are they true araucana? only breeders sell them, they do not come from hatcheries, they just call them that. Do you have pics?

Nope, doubt that they are true araucanas. I think they are probably just easter eggers, from what I have read. They have tail feathers, muffs and beards, so from what I have read about araucanas, they are not...they are just mutts really. But they lay blue eggs, smiling.

I think the term "araucana" is used very loosely. I got the eggs for hatching from a friend, who got them as chicks from our local co-op, she said they were called araucanas. I think that she was slightly mislead with the breed that they were called. I have been reading about how loosely this term, araucana is used.

My original post was to only find out about the genes carried through. I went on this forum to the part that spoke of comb genetics, and to tell the truth, most of what I read was very difficult for me to understand, about the dominant and recessive gene thing regarding comb types. I don't do well with understanding tables, and so on. Just wanted what I thought was quite a simple question answered. Not pictures yet, I will get some later.

I don't have much info as far as dom/rec shank colors but pea comb is dom. Not sure if it matters which bird is pea combed. We do have a few genetic gurus here and if you change your title to address that I am sure they will answer. Maybe edit the title to ask about comb or shank color genetics or post in the breeds and genetics section.....good luck
