We found them.

My goodness, I was in a panic.

She was in the run with one of the kids and two of our 9 week old Light Brahma chicks escaped and she couldn't get them back in. One of them was our little roo, Jack, who is so sweet that I will probably actually keep him even though we had a strict no roo policy! When we got home it was almost dark and raining. We have woods for acres behind us, but DH and I spent about 20 minutes out there with flashlights. It felt like hours. My heart just sunk.

I finally found them squished in really tightly between the outside of the coop and the large waterproof rubbermaid I store things in. It is tucked under the nestbox, so at least they were smart enough to find a dry and concealed place to hide. They usually come running at the sound of my voice, but they just stayed put. They must've been so scared!

It was the same feeling that you get when you briefly lose sight of a child in a busy place. Not that there is any comparison between misplacing a human child and a chicken child, but you know what I mean.

Lesson learned. No playing with the chicks if we're not home.
