The bebe is 5 wks old...what do you guys think now?

Hello! Always nice to see other people in Hawaii on this forum.

I'm curious where/what you rescued this chick from?

I don't know much about sex/breeds but here are some pics of the two boys my girl hatched - and I do know their ages at least. They were born either 9/18/10 or 9/19/10.

So this is Bronty - at what would have been about 5 weeks.

This was Beyonce (we obviously didn't know he was a he) at what would have been about 6 weeks

Are they wild chicks? Because I noticed now that this other wild hen who just had chicks had much smaller chicks than my girl Casino did. I'm guessing it might be because we regularly fed Casino food (even though she is still technically wild) but this new hen is completely on her own. Maybe less nutrition in general?

Aloha Emily. What breed is Bronty if you don't mind my asking? Hes pretty! Im still kind of new to the whole chicken thing and dont know my breeds yet. My parents had some when I was young just outside Chicago. But we only had around 14 or 15 and only 2 breeds. I had never even heard of blue eggs until I moved out here.

I must agree with you, my bebe is a pretty thing.

Thought so ever since the wings started feathering out. I keep crossing my fingers hoping that #1 she is a she and #2 the wing feathers don't change pattern! TY for checking out my post hehe.

My bebe was rescued in Kaneohe at the beginning of March. My friend found this bebe and its sibling in the pouring rain.

She posted on Facebook and I offered to rehab both but the solid black one didn't make it.

I was so sad!!! I do have an earlier post with earlier pics but basically, the bebe had that chipmunk look. Fellow chicken lovers here all have strong opinions of what the bebe is, the most common being an EE (Easter Egger) or a game bantam. I think most think rooster too but I'm hoping not b/c I live smack in the middle of town and a roo would really upset the neighbors.

I love your 2 chickens!!! LOVE the feathers!

Oh! They are from Kaneohe? That is where I work and where all my chicken friends are. That is wonderful of you to try to rescue them. I would have done the same. I'm sorry one of them didn't make it. I would be very sad too.

Where in Kaneohe were they found?

Sorry I can't help much with ID - ing your little one. It sure is a cutie though! I don't know much about breeds and such. I don't really know what breeds my chicken friends are. I have asked around on this forum a little. I have heard the feral chickens are generally a mix of games.

Barbara - I don't know what Bronty is really. At about 4 months old - both Bronty and Beyonce ran off. Bronty was the dominant brother. He always pecked at his brother. One day Beyonce came to eat like normal but I never saw him again. Two days later Bronty was around like normal, coming to eat, but the next day he didn't come around either. I am guessing they moved on to another area to find their own flocks. At that point their mom had laid some eggs and had been trying to chase them away for a few months already. I miss them.

They were my first chicken babies. I didn't meet Casino (their mom) till she showed up one day as a young girl. For your reference though, this is what Bronty and Beyonce ended up looking like shortly before they left me.

There are their parents.

That's their mom Casino with her last boyfriend Emilio. I don't think Emilio is their dad. She was hanging around with Zack before she laid Beyonce and Bronty. But Zack looked exactly like Emilio did.

Yeah, I had never heard of blue eggs either. I am originally from the East Coast. I thought only robins laid blue eggs. heehee.

Aloha,

First, to all my Hawaii People nice to meet/see more People from Hawaii. Be it a move or born on the Island. (Aloha spirit is the way to go.)

Emily, Aloha!

I love the look of Beyonce or should we call him Jayz, LOL, is a nice brown color. I wouldn't doubt that the siblings, are not siblings. When feral roos and hens are around my yard there are times when the bebe's have more than one dad. The hen that I posted has 2 other siblings that are with her. They have all the same coloring but.. one has molting on her.

I have a hen like the one in your display pic and her kids are similar bot one has while that is molting out while the other has none. I have to take pics but I need toget a new camera. then I can show you the different in feather patterning. But I have noticed that in the feral population that is out and about on Maui. Those are beautiful photos.

ChicknHawaii,

I can't wait to see more photos of your baby as the little one still grows. If I am wrong I will own it. But my hopes are in your favor for a gal.. ;-)

But everyone's guesses are wonderful. That is the fun part of "the guessing game."
